Hi all, quick question. I'm thinking of buying a 320 D 00 or 01! I've been reading about the turbo failure issues online and it seems that the problem mainly occours in 02 to 03 models. Can antone confirm this because i'd be pretty worried about this what with the expensive costs involved with turbo replacement! Thanks in advance!

You're correct - the 136bhp engine didn't suffer the same amount of problems as the later 150bhp model. It's not as refined, but still a very capable motor. Do still check the service history though.

So every one of them will blow - both versions of the engine? Sounds like a touch of hyperbole there.

Cost me almost 2k when my 320d hit about 70k miles. No problems in 2 years since then.

Completly not true that they all go I have had 3 BMW diesels and yes my current 330d has blown it's turbo but 2 other 320d were perfect , one had 160000 miles on it and had never blown a turbo
