Half thinking I would like one but hard to find something that doesnt seem like an exhorbitant overindulgance.

What are the chances if pickup up something from ex-lease repo or liquidation for circa 30k? or should I be resigned to sticking with my current jammer for another while ?

Looked around at E200, BMW 3 and 5 series and havent seen anything that looked like a good deal from irish dealers so thinking that recent appreciation against sterling may be the preferred route as irish dealers still appear to be in denial with their expectations or I am just looking in the wrong places.

Help / Guidance / Pointers appreciated

I dont think you'll get a 2 year old XF for that price (They only came out in late 08). I'd say hang on for an another year, or buy something else.

They've been around for a bit longer than that. I worked in a Jaguar dealership around April '08 and they had already sold a few by then.

Cheapest ones in the UK are around £25k so I wouldn't think you'll get one over here for anywhere close to €30k.

Keep an eye on the auctions - I was talking to a guy working for Belgard a couple of weeks ago and one of the last cars they had to get back was a Jaguar (for the liquidator), not sure if it was an XF or not. Think Lombard were repo'ing one recently as well.

Thanks for the help so far. Currently driving a 320d so would prefer a change even if I had to wait another year for the right price.

VRT is a real killer taking in from UK as it looks like it would be between 10k-11k which makes the UK cars more expensive even at todays f/x rates.

What auctions are the best to keep an eye on as I went to one or two down by Naas to check out how things work but it seems that once you get people putting their hand up over and over the chances of getting any real value disappear pretty quickly.

You wont get an xf for 30k at the minute but its wont be that long. Towards the end of this year you should be looking at that price for one. Uk is no good for these, cheaper here as far as I can see.
You should get one for about 37k now though here if you wanted to part with the extra. Are you buying straight? If not, you might get a shock when given as trade in value for your car too.

Will be buying straight ..... my car will be passed on to a sibling as a pressie to her.

I'd be worried about buying something that heavy from an auction too. You'd want to know exactly what your at and what your buying.

Still cant see one coming along for 30k though. The auction prices are not far away from retail prices, particularly the repo stuff.
