Your Favourite Ambient Electronica

Playing an ambient set tomorrow, a during the day type thing. It doesn't have to be commercial, but it can't really be that obscure, I'd like people to recognize most of the songs. It won't be a full electronica set, I'll be throwing in some other chilled stuff in too, but I'm hoping to get a good bit of Four Tet etc in, but I haven't got a huge collection of that kind of stuff, so commence listing your favourite chilled tracks

Well it's the Bernard Shaw, but the thing is a 3pm-9pm job, and it'll all chilled out, kind of Electric Picnic during the day kind of vibe.

Just encountered another problem, a lot of the tracks I picked out to play are from albums I've had for ages, so half of them are below 200kbps... :mad:

Well in that case; Higher than the sun from Primal Scream's Screamadelica would appear to tick both the chilled and recognisable boxes. Most of the album in fact! A bit of Massive Attack- Mezzanine type stuff shouldn't go too far wrong either. Or for a bit of a curveball, try Newton Faulkner's version of Teardrop.

Disclaimer: Any or all of the above may be blatantly obvious or done to death. I don't get out a great deal lately (read 8-10 years [not prison!]) and certainly don't get to sit in boozers from 3 o'clock in the afternoon very often.

Pretty much the whole Moon Safari album for me, one of my favourite albums of all time from any genre. Others like Zero 7 and Lemon Jelly, as mentioned above, are also decent enough

well, over on 'the mainland' a chill/ambient session would not be complete without a little Carbon based Lifeforms. I have to say, I honestly love these guy's music.

As an extension of this, check out most of the stuff released on the most excellent Ultimae label.

I'm liking the new Monolake. Hard one to call when everyone is in awe of his stuff and there's a swell of opinion that says he's god, if that makes any sense. Nice that he's championing a return to less/no compression, then again, many folks working from home without Waves are not crushing their music with compression anyway, if that makes any more sense than the previous wide sweeping statement

I love the new Monolake - have it on again now for the first time since around Christmas and really digging it.

On a somewhat similar note, I was listening to 'Submers' again today by Loscil... absolute quality album.
