Some amount of talent from Ireland this year, as per usual.

Is it just me or is the whole Late Late Eurovision show completely rigged. I mean all the songs leading up to the "celtic ballad" which gets a big cheer from the crowd. I'd put money hands down on that being our entry.

Also didn't Justing Lee Collins say he'd be entering it too a few late late shows ago? Would be much better than the ****e they have lined up for us at the moment.

The prime Late Late show audience of 60 year old biddies hoping they win a trip to Sligo and 100 euros spending money is as far from the teens texting their votes wildly in the Eurovision as you can get. I don't think RTE have copped this yet.

pointless having such a programme on ireland will be a failure once again.
how about quitting the eurovision "contest" alltogether.

    Ireland's entry is irrelevant.

Georgia will win by a distance.

Good song, good singer....gorgeous singer actually....

Now let's see you rush to youtube...

    Ah...sure I'll save you the trouble :

    Estonia's entry is perfect.

Great to see countries sending songs in genres like this :)

The Eurovision has such potential to be a great musical contest, and yet year after year, countries resign to sending pop songs which are supposedly "safe for Eurovision". It could be a great medium for promoting independent singers/songwriters throughout Europe, and yet this never happens sadly. I would love to see some of Ireland's young up and coming musicians giving Eurovision a try, but sadly its reputation stops this :(

When is the contest on this year?

The semi-finals are on the 25th and 27th of this month and the final will be on the 29th.

Good singer but a 50/1 shot is going to win by a distance? Doubtful. Supposedly this year is going to be the battle of the 17 year-old singers of Azerbaijan and Germany. The Azerbaijan song is the favourite with the bookies at the minute:

It's not my cup of tea but it is the kind of song that would do well in this day and age (unlike Irish entries which are perpetually stuck in the nineties). The song's said to be popular in the charts in Eastern European countries. I think she has to get through a qualifier first but she should manage it.

The Germany one is awful in my opinion. It's like a Lily Allen song but the girl from Germany can't pronounce English words very well and it comes across terrible. I can't figure out why it's second favourite at the moment.

I've only heard a few songs but I reckon the Denmark one could be a dark horse for the contest. It's cheesy pop stuff but ought to go down well with countries.

The bookies are only reflecting the views of those in the UK and Ireland who are bothered to have a bet.....but I agree that getting through the qualifier is the first big hurdle. Remember that this year half of the votes are from juries who will hear all of the songs several times. My guess is that the songs that sound "interesting" the first time will bore on a third or subsequent hearing which will allow some of the slow burners to do well.

Germany's entry is catchy enough....the fact that she cant or doesnt pronounce all of the words without an accent probably adds to the catchiness.

Denmark is a decent enough popsong too...could do well with the younger viewers....

Azerbaijan are really desperate to win, a lot of money's been spent on the promotion of the entry, however, I think they'll come up short in the end. As for who'll win, I have honestly no idea, it's quite open.

As for our chances, I'd say we won't get out of the semi. We really need to rethink Eurovision and send something that young people actually listen to. We shouldn't send "Celtic" ballads which have little appeal to young people. I honestly think we have to move away from sending pop songs/ballads and give Eurovision a more alternative view =).

I usually make a bit of money on the Eurovision, here's hoping this year. The trick is to find decent enough songs at high odds that will make the top 4 or top 10 and not worry about the winner.

    Azerbaijan - boring and pointless
    Turkey - crap
Russia - crap. I mean, sweet jesus what was that
    Ukraine - crap
Germany - wtf is that? No-one votes for Germany anyway
Ireland - woeful, like listening to President McAleese warble on about Celtic mysticism
Norway - not my cup of tea but could do very well. Depends on whether he has learned how to sing in time
    Israel - rubbish
    Denmark - boring
Greece - homosexual Neanderthal stage show, null points
Armenia - if she wasn't signing about bloody apricots in the motherland, would be worth a few pounds for a top 5. Might still put a few apricots on.
Croatia - pretty girls who can't sing, top 10 at least, dreadful
Sweden - This is a steal at current prices for a top 10. Might be worth a quid for a win
Slovakia - Odd one this, a good stage show and it will be top 10.
Iceland - first a volcano and now this? Bastards
    Switzerland - hahaha. No
    Romania - make it stop
Poland - They take our jobs & our women, and this is the thanks we get?
    Spain - Not a hope
France - I love how the French couldn't care less, and this year no different. More mainstream than last year however so could sneak a top 10
Finland - Even the most beautiful song sung in Finnish sounds like someone strangling seals. And this is a crap song
Serbia - Opting out of winning this year
Netherlands - Like your Auntie Nellie drunkenly singing karaoke at 2am
Latvia - Pretty girl, aimless song. Definitely not going to win, who knows where it ends up
Malta - 14 to 1 on Betfair for a top 10 finish. Well worth a punt.
    Portugal - nonsense

I can't take any more of this. If you're into Eurovision betting, my suggestions are to check out Sweden and Malta for top 10 as they are both on silly prices currently.
