A rising tide?

Just wanted to share: today, after 4 months on the dole, I got a job which is better paid and more interesting than my last. In the last week, two friends have gotten promotions, while a third has gotten a lateral transfer to London (which she's wanted for some time). There just seems to be a positive vibe at the moment - maybe it's just coincidence, but I really hope this rising tide lifts all boats and, if you're in a difficult situation with work at the moment, that things improve. Good luck y'all, from a very happy Camilla Rhodes :)

I went back to work in January after 11 months of dole hell. Its a better job, with more money and better career prospects - cant say fairer than that!

    Well done.

Out of curiosity, what industry do you and your friends work in?

There is nothing in this unfortunately. The workforce is contracting at a huge rate every week, the only thing slowing down the unemployment figues is emigration and people extending their education.

Thats great news, good for you.

My luck will change soon too.

Perhaps people with experience will begin to start finding work again, but spare a thought for the graduates who are at the very, very end of a long queue of potential employees to be employed.

I graduated in September after stupidly pursuing a Masters for an extra year after my degree. Now I'm jobless and on the dole, competing with vastly more experienced people in the jobs market, and very soon to be competing with graduates that have my qualifications but are 'fresher' from university.

I know I've no debts or commitments, and must be thankful for what I've got, but it is disheartening. And this year looks to be just as bad. I'm thinking of going abroad, and TBH I've little faith left in Ireland and the government's ability to dig their way out of recession or create jobs.
