recently bought new 1.5 diesel car, when driving along can hear loud regular tapping noise, clearly over engine/road noise, when brought back to garage was told its the diesel particulate filter and its normal.

the noise is there at least half of the time when driving.

not impressed at all and convinced this can't be right.

should i be able to hear a diesel particlate filter over engine/road noise?
should it make noise at all???

how to handle garage who just don't want to know???

    Thanks in advance.

What car is that? if it's a 1.5 diesel Renault, I'm pretty sure it doesn't have a particulate filter

Diesel partical filters are filters...they should'nt make a clicking noise...
what make/model have you got....i guess its the 1.5 dci...

When the Dpf's regenerates (clean themselves) the temp in the filter rises
to around 600deg C which is sometime acheived by the engine advanceing its timing ...with peugeot/citroens this can cause the engine to run lumpy.
