Fertilizer - last years grass cuttings

Going turning a few lazy beds tomorrow for potatoes. Anyone know if last years grass cuttings, which are fairly rotten, would be any good for fertilizer. I was thinking if turning the sod in on top of some rotten grass cuttings.

    Anyone?.

    Thanks,

    T.
