Anyone else experience this in work and think its ridiculous? I cant help saluting the same people all day in work, even if I have only been out of their site for 10 or 15 minutes. Me and a friend tried to not salute each other bar once in the morning for the craic to see could we and it felt weird, we couldnt do it.
Am I the only one who is completely conscious of this or does everyone think the same.

Some people are just born to be lickspittles. It's best to accept your station in life and not give it too much thought.

As long as you salute when the fürer walks by, you'll be fine...

lol.. it is pretty ridiculous. I worked in a large office for a while in the US and every time you see someone you pretty much have to say hello or they'll think you're an ignorant cnut.

    I quit after a month :D

lol, its nuts, you could be saying hello to same person literally 30 times in one day, even more actually

I actually did LOL (liah :p) at this as i only said it ito a mate in work recently. I spend half the day saying "howya, alright, hey, howsitgoin" etc to the same people. My job entails me working in different sections and having to walk through the same corridors (meeting the same people) all day long. It seems rude not acknowledging them but i think its funny saying "howya" again to someone i only seen a few hours previous.

Id love to see for the craic how many times i actually do "salute" people in any given day.

I think a hello in the morning is enough, in my team some people don't even do that. There should be signs in offices with something to the effect " you are not required to say anything passing people in corridoors".

when i moved from Dublin to a small rural town in the west if Ireland, everone saluted me, i didnt know them, nor they me, i got RSI in the neck from nodding my hellows, and they all said "how are ya doin", although to my untrained ear it sounded like "how are you joan", i was freaked out, how do they know my name?? i got used to it and i do it myself now, just people being nice. :o

:D This happens to me all the time! Where I work I pass along the same corridor all day and meet the same people so when I first see them I'll say 'hello, how're you' etc but each time after that I feel the need to say sonething witty or at least a bit different haha Pressure!

so at what time of the day do the luas drivers stop bothering to salute the other guys driving the other way?

I just nod or whatever and it's only if there is going to be eye contact. If it's someone that i consider a mate i'll usually just roundhouse them to the left side of the jaw and walk on.

Usually just a pat on the back or a box in the arm. But hey, I'm in 5th year so I'm still allowed to do that.:p

I work in a bar so its not really necessary but its always funny to see bus drivers flashing each other when they pass, I wonder how many times a day they do it

    Flash their lights that is
