Replacing standard sky box with sky+ box

    Hi,
I'm getting HD next Friday so i'll have my sky+ box going spare. Was going to swap my mothers standard box with the sky+ box and pair her existing card to my box.
What i'm wondering is will she be able to use any of the recording functions? I know you need two inputs from the dish for the full capability of sky+, but would she be able to record something she is watching?

    Cheers

Yes she can record what she is watching and use live pause, ask sky to activate sky plus when you phone to re pair the card.

they aren't; you can pair them a new box by calling sky as noted above.

With one feed only she will be able to use live pause only.

Nope, she will be able to record stuff, she wont however be able to change channels whilst recording or schedule two recordings simultaneously.

    Thanks for the replies.
As long as she can leave the channel on rte1 and record it when she's out it'll do fine!

Can I just jump into this thread instead of starting a new one?

I was in the same position as the op and installed my old Sky+ box in my mothers yesterday. Paired the card and told them the new box was a Sky+ box instead of her old regular box and that was no problem either, record function, live pause, anytime etc were working within a couple of hours.

Was over there this morning and turn the Sky+ box on from the remote and got the message " no satellite signal is being received please unplug your box for one minute and try again" or something like that. Tried a few channels and they were all the same. Went into anytime to see if anything would play from that and they worked fine. Went back out to the main screen and it had sorted itself out, picture back on all channels.

Was in there again this evening and turned the box back on again to view and the same message was up on screen. Anytime was again working but when I went back out of it the problem remained this time.

I unplugged the box, plugged it back in again, waited a minute to turn the box back on, and it was working fine again, but this looks like it may be an ongoing problem.

I`m wondering if anytime could be causing the problem, seeing as she has only one feed going into the Sky+ box? I checked her signal strength and quality to see what they were like. Quality is around 75-80-% constant but the signal strength is not so good. When there was "no signal" the strength was only around 25%. When its up and running on all channels its still only around 50%.

The box is my old one and I never had any issues with it. Was using it up until I swapped hers out. Her old one was an ancient Panasonic one and altough quite slow, never coughed this message up on the screen.

    Anyone got any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.:)

sounds like the dish has moved a bit or a cable is worn/loose.

it will work to receive the few freeview channels as far as i know, (just pulled out my card there and i can still get sky news) but you wont be able to use any of the playback or record features (pause, rewind)
