Stress Fracture

Hi guys , just wonerding does anyone have any experience of a stress fracture of the shine bone (tibia) ?

Iv been limping around for a few weeks while still training Muay Thai and soccer, so went to physio who said i had a contusion on the inside of my tibia and to go easy with trainging. So I did, eventually the pain got worse and worse, so I decided to go to the doctor, and an xray showed up a shaded line which the doc says is a stress fracture, which was caused from "over use of the shin".

Anyhow Im waiting to see a specialist on Tuesday, so at the moment im on crutches and resting my leg. My question is, has anyone else suffered this type of injury? Any ideas on treatment (cast or no cast)? Recovery time?

Id appreciate if anyone could shed some light on it.

    Thanks in advance.

    Ian

It happened a friend of mine, a dancer, his treatment consisted of rest (a period of non weight bearing was necessary) before engaging in a program of increasingly demanding strengthening and conditioning exercise, leading to an eventual return to play in 8-12 weeks I think, but everybody is different so you could be a longer or shorter time recovering, see what the specialist has to say but that should give you an idea

Thanks Darragh, thats what i was hoping for, a cast would be a disaster for me. The doctor said id have to give up sport for 3 months. It actually feels alot better after a few days on crutches so hopefully a couple of weeks on crutches , then, walking and gradually jogging and eventually training again.

I wonder is this common in martial arts?
