It basically means your phone's filesystem is open to be written and read from. Main advantage is getting some third-party applications from Cydia / Icy / Installer.
Cydia is a fecking godsend for some applications.. stuff like SBSettings (swipe your status bar to get quick access to switch on WiFi, EDGE, Bluetooth etc), Winterboard (apply themes to your iPhone), BossPrefs (remove icons like Stocks, iTunes etc.), MXTube (download YouTube videos for offline viewing).
