While I can understand why we might send ministers and junior ministers to spend a couple of days with our overseas trade partners for St Patricks day, I cant understand why the AG has to go. Can anyone explain this to me

Wouldn't he go and meet the American Supreme Court Judges and the relevant US AG's as a representative of the Legal side of the government?

Do I seriously need to answer that or is it one of those clever rhetorical questions?

If someone can answer the question in a serious and worthwhile way, please do so. Otherwise, please don't waste electrons by continuing with the quality of the previous replies. This isn't Barnum & Bailey guys, nor is it the silly day at the park.

None of them have to go. They choose to go on the pretext that it helps encourage business, etc.
Where was Obama last July 4th?
Where was Sarkozy last July 14th?

We should be bringing leaders over here and showing them how good Ireland is (maybe not let them see everything though!).

I thought it was funny last year when Obama suggested he wouldn't meet Cowen. "What? They want me to meet a fat drunken Irishman so that he can hand me a bowl of weeds? Tell him to **** off" or something close to it is probably Obama's response.

...and here is the vomit of little Joe Murphy. Joe wants to grow up and be a smart economy but he can also be a green job if you want him to...

They probably wouldn't come especially if we were bringing them to Broombridge :D

On the plus side, plenty of surplus accomodation they can stay in while they visit :D

Seems that no-one can answer the question then without going off on one.

Sorry Mr Hat, typically the forum is up for making an effort on these things. I can only assume, with non-cynical mode on, that they want another representative in another city or, eith cynical mode on, that it's another junket for another government-appointed representative. Truth could be either or somewhere in the middle.

And with the absence of utility-based replies (see post 12)... that's a locking.
