AVG is a good Free Anti-virus

Re-boot in safe mode, download and run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware :http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Got rid of a really insidious virus from a neighbour's laptop around a month ago.

After that, install AVG or Avira or Microsoft's own free anti-virus software - don't bother with Norton, it's mainly bloatware.

thanks for all your help! the mc fee one is gone as it let me down, the norton i downloaded seems to have removed it but i had to also do a system restore because it had to delete more files to get rid of it and then i couldnt open apps like firefox or e or windows media player etc. seems ok now but how can i be sure the virus is gone completly? im a newbie to this stuff :D. also do you reckon it would have got any personal info etc?

    thanks again! :)
