I played in a qualifying singles competition yesterday in Dunmurry Springs. Anybody know of other qualifying opens this week or next week?

They have opened a new clubhouse in Dunmurry and it is great. Nice sized clubhouse, decent food, nothing over the top but nice. Worth a visit.

Check the GUI website they have a comprehensive list of all open competitions, but they won't be able to tell you if the comps are qualifying or not, you'll have to phone the club in question for that info.

The CSS shouldn't really matter to you, unless your looking to get .1 back.

Par 71, SS off the championship stakes is 74. Unless it's calm CSS is generally between 75 and 77. You will do very well to play to handicap off the back plates.

Pardon my ignorance, but does "Qualifying Open" mean it counts for GUI handicap purposes ie +.1 or -.4?

...and that theres obviously no placing?

How much are the Dunmurray Springs opens? Many there? thinking of heading up for 25th March.

You can have placing in a competition and it can still be qualifying provided the placing is on the fairway only and the ball is played as it lies in the rough, if the course is maintaing its measured length there is no reason for it not to be a qualifying competition.

If you are a low H/cap player CSS has everything got to do with it!! If you played off 2 and the css is +2 it is easier to shoot your hcap and lose .2 than go out and shoot 2 under on a tough course and lose .2
