For those of you in the know. Is it the norm to show up at random for the weekly 9.30 am Joe Dalys meet for a trial spin?

    Thinking of heading out Sunday.

Yes, better check out the roster to confirm but almost all weeks there will be a 9:30 from Joe Dalys.

Actually, I had a friend ask me if it's okay for non-members to show up for a trial run. Anybody know?

I'm a member myself, but my weekends are quite full at the moment, so I haven't had a chance to ask anyone while on a spin.

I'm planning on doing the spin tomorrow. It's gonna be a tough one I think, but I need to do some climbing...

There'll be a choice of levels, as I understand it. The routes on the roster all follow the same roads down to near Roundwood (though the pace will be different), the beginners spin is supposed to look like this and the step-up, medium and fast spins are all supposed to continue on through Laragh to go over the Wicklow gap, then back to Dublin, either by the N81, or, if there still hasn't been enough climbing for ya, around the lakes to Lacken and over Bohernabreena: link.

All this is very dependant on who turns up, and what people actually want to do. I'd imagine that there will be a fair few of the really strong riders off at the races so we'll see. I've no idea how much punishment my legs will take given today's exertions either.

I've never actually gone on a beginners' spin but as far as I know, it's slow. It is what it says it is, and no one who is in reasonable health should be in any danger of being dropped. You'll both be fine. :)

You'll know when you get there and the groups are being decidedwhere you belong. You could always push up to the medium group if you think you need more.

..i was before xmas, it was slow i guess, but not comically so or anything. its a grand place to start
It is what it says it

    just back from the spin

cracking cycle, and a sound bunch of guys aswell which of course made it that bit more enjoyable

left Joe Dalys and set off to round wood in 2 beginner groups, i got a puncture after hitting a fairly deep pot hole just before enniskerry, 2 johns from the club stopped with me, which was sound

    we then cycled to roundwood

got some grub on (porridge, which Fran Oconnor thought was tasty as fook, as he makes his porridge in the prison stylee ,i.e with water!!!)

then back over some mountain and into enniskerry, a nice few climbs alright, but the pace was great, and i have to say the Orwell members organised it all very well, they'd send experienced guys down a big descent first, and they'd wait at different points in the road to tell us to slow down, avoid a pothole etc....

all in all, a great day

pretty tired and sore now i must say, but after cycling 89km over all, thats expected, and a nice indian will be thourghly deserved tonight

Good to hear you enjoyed it :)

Well that was lovely. What a day for it. I actually got a bit of sun on my face too (well the bits that aren't covered by euro mandated shadees and helmet anyway).

135km door-to-door with 1514m (garmin meters). No wicklow gap today but I did get to go over the devil's glen for the first time (NOT verdict: too steep, but it's over just in time. No proper descent as a reward. I give it 1 thumbs up), and coming back over Sally Gap by Glenmacnas was nice with a tailwind. The two Barrys from Orwell were great today too.

    Now, to the fridge.

Good to hear you had a good experience today too chrisbonnie.

A good protein powder is the best way to recovery any of the bodybuilding ones or the high5 protein recovery will do the trick with a nice carb meal

@levitronix: were you riding with us today? Which bike were you on?

Nice spin, great weather even got sun burnt a bit on my face. 135km for me and 1500metres of climbing.
Will get the creaking sound off my bike sorted tomorrow ...

118km...went back via pineforest road then down Glencullen road, Glenamuck road and home. Was only home for 20 minutes, then drove to Kentstown, dinner with relations, back home again now. Tired!

Good to meet you Levitronix, thanks for leading us around.

Really enjoyed today's spin. What a gorgeous day!
At this stage, the fridge has been well and truly raided, and I'm lying back on the sofa...

Glad some of ye enjoyed yesterdays beginners spin. Our problem is that the numbers are increasing to such an extent that we're finding it difficult to mange this amount on the road.

Splitting the groups as we did yesterday was one solution but with some people only beginning to come out now, there could be a further increase which we think we'll have to curtail.

With these numbers we also lose the abilty to go thru the basics such as up and over because we're usually dealing with the traffic buildup behind us and some people slipping off the back. The group is also forced to stop more and more to wait for people on the way home so apologies to anyone that finds this annoying but this is the beginners group so we have to cater for everyone.
