Bad news today. Looks like the Fleming group, who own Fota Island Golf Club, are going to be wound up next week.

What do you all think the future holds for the members there?

if they go into recievership .....nothing will change

what would you expect to happen coming into the beginning of the golfing season

For starters, I'd expect a new owner who'd bought it, presumably to make a profit, to consider upping the members' annual fees.

soundsham - start at the basics and I'll come back to this in a few days

Dont think the problem was with fota island golf club. More to do with other investments from the owners. The place is always busy when i see it. Top class setup. Cant see the banks going near the place as id say the course is doing as well as any other course around in the current climate.

Dunno. I'm presuming that if someone did take it over, they'd hope to make money out of it rather than running it any other way. There wouldn't be much point in taking it over if they weren't gonna make money.

I can't see NAMA running a golf course and I can't see too many being interested in taking over a golf course, even one as good as Fota.

Which brings me back to my original question...... Maybe you have an answer....................................................................

Wow.......very enlightening, you'd expect a new owner to want to make a profit.......

so are you aware if the club is running at a profit or loss presently........

Or do you generally prefer you speculate blindly..........
I have to say I think these type of threads are of no use to anybody especially without any credible information

not much if anything will change except that it will join the 22 clubs in leinster that are currently being run by banks or adminsters on behalf of banks

You're probably right. I spoke to a friend of mine today who's a member there and he said that he's heard talk that the clubhouse there may close, and the hotel may be used instead. Hopefully it'll remain in business. It's a wonderful place.
