As above. Nothing too extreme metal wise. Just want to find some good reference albums that i can listen to for helping me blend instruments together. I use programmed drum tracks, 1 to 3 guitar tracks (usually quite distorted) and a bass guitar. My drum tracks and bass are usually consistent but my guitar sound can change mostly because i like to mess around with sounds and styles. It can be anything from a clean tone with a bite to crunchy distortion. If anyone knows any albums that they think might help with the sounds i'm trying to mix let me know

One of my "go to" references for metal is Lamb of God "Sacrament".
Amazing mix on this album. A lot of the punch comes from the unbelievable tightness of the playing but it is something to aim for.

Many many many metal albums are produced for ****.

If you wanna hear well produced heavy music try the last two Faith No More albums and especially Barkmarket.

In fact, just listen to Barkmarket.

Great album. The making of DVD that came with the deluxe edition is a good insight into their recording approach and that of Machine.

i love "carcass - swansong" for the immaculate production (over-produced in some peoples opinion)

for a more raw edgy sound check any of the last 3 napalm death albums.

I have always enjoyed Max Norman's work with Megadeth (Countdown and Youthanasia).

RATM first album (at the risk of sounding obvious - isn't it in Bob Katz honour roll for well mastered albums).

Morello's guitar sound (by tracking a tele AND a Les Paul i believe) is mindblowing. It's thick but it cuts through and takes your head off.

For a slightly strange dum sound reference, Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese dream is whopper.

Never really was a fan of much metal though.

Siamese Dream is one of those high water mark recordings. Every element of it (still) sounds amazing.

    Except the song writing.

I have always loved Slayer's "Reign in Blood". It really powerful but also very warm sounding at the same time.

For more modern stuff, Breaking Benjamin's "Phobia" is pretty amazing sounding.

That and Superunknown have my favourite reocrded drum tracks. Both different but great in their own right.
