Hi all. I've returned to education as a mature student at aged 40 to study art. Recently I'm more and more convinced that teaching is something that I would be passionate about doing. I've just completed two weeks work experience at secondary level and I'm convinced it's for me. Now I know the jobs situation at the moment, but that aside, can anyone tell me what qualifications I need to teach at various levels, eg.VEC ,Night classses ,secondary level etc. I'm getting so much conflicting information from various websites I've looked up
All I've done at the moment is a level 5 fine arts course, level 6 next year.
    Thank you :)

You can teach art with a diploma (a specific 3 year qualification that I can't remember the name of) and which most employers don't seem to know about. Its on the list of acceptable degrees for teaching in Ireland, there are only two, the Design Communications one and the equivalent art one. The VEC regard it as a pass dregree. In the VEC you will now also need a teaching qualification - this is just being introduced.
Of course, just because this is permitted, it doesn't mean that in an interview the panel would accept it above higher qualifications.
