    Hi all

Does anyone know where i could get a rustic timber beam preferably hardwood that i could use for a mantle for a stone fireplace i'm building.

Any suggestions. Cavan or Monaghan area would be great but not essential.

If any of you have bought how much would I roughly be looking to pay.

Size approx 1.8m x 225mm x 150mm very approx and subject so what will suit.

That's not huge so you could try the salvage shops, what are you looking for though?

    Bog Oak,
    Green Oak,
    Pitch Pine,

Did mine with an old railway sleeper. Got it free. I shaped it with a chainsaw. Plained the dirty stuff off it. Put several coats of varnish on it to sela it and stop the creosote from coming out. It looks very nice - set in the stone of the fireplace. Its a real eye catcher when you walk into the room and worked out really well.

    Thanks folks,

Going to look at local salvage yard tomorrow. I was chatting to him and he tells me he has 18th century pitch pine and oak imported from the states that would suit.......wouldn't commit on price yet though.

    Thanks for your suggestions

Can we see a picture of it?
