Mouthwash and teeth staining

Had a visit to the dentist today. Was told I had a lot of staining due primarily to the mouthwash I was using (Corsodyl). He recommended that I use Oraldene instead but that stuff is very expensive. Does anyone know if there are other brands of mouthwash that don't cause the tooth staining problem?

    Cheers.

    Hi stark

Most people dont really need a mouthwash. It is much more important to physically remove plaque by brushing and flossing. If you use a fluoride toothpaste you are getting fluoride on your teeth from that.

A mouthwash is only really necessary if you have gum disease, or braces on, have an infection or some other condition that puts you at high risk of dental or oral disease.

Corsodyl does stain your teeth and is the best mouthwash for killing bacteria but is usually only necessary for short periods.

Spend your money on wine and spirits, alcohol is in most mouthwashes anyway!

corsodyl only works on dirt that's under a day old, so as long as you're brushing and flossing correctly, there's no real need unless you've got another issue like what day dreamer said.
tap water is pretty good too, has plenty of fluoride in it too!!
