Pain with new retainer

Hi guys, I got my braces off two days ago(yay!) and I was fitted for the plastic type retainer thing which they put on yesterday. The thing is I am in so much pain to the point where I feel physically sick. I have rang my ortho and she says its normal, but its so bad I am finding it hard to even fuction. I cant stress how bad this pain is. She has told me to take a couple of panadol but they are not working. My question is has anyone any tips on how to minimise the pain? how long will it last for? and could I go to my doctor to get stronger pain killers or will he shoo me out the door?
    Thanks:o

The retainer should not be very painful, certainly no more painful than having you brace tightened of fitted and shouldnt last more than a few days.

It might be a bit too big and just need to have a bit snipped off it if it is digging into your gums. I would contact the orthodontist again and explain that you feel something is wrong.

    Here here,
I'd go back to your ortho- retainer shouldn't be hurting...ahving had braces twice and retainers twice... they definitely sholdnt hurt and remember to always wear it!

My wisdom teeth came down and everything moved back! so after second time around I've opted for a fixed retainer on the back and then have a removeable one I pop in at night to make sure everythig stays straight this time!!:D

that's an urban legend. there's no decent proof that wisdom teeth causes this. people who have had teeth in front of wisdom teeth removed still had crowding of the incisors.
