Help build or upgrade for video editing

    Hi Guys

Just wondering if anyone could advise me on a build? I've never even looked inside a PC but have read a few threads here and it might just solve my problem!

We purchased a SD camcorder for my Dad, but his PC is so old it can hardly run Firefox, never mind video editing software! Anyway, to cut a long story short, rather than have our gift cost him more money on a new PC, I've decided to try and build one for him.

    * Willing to spend anything from 300 - 600 Euro.
    * It will be mainly used for video editing of SD video, probably with an application like Adobe Premier Elements. Wouldn't mind future proofing it for HD editing also.

    I have two options:

    1. Convert my old Dell Dimension 3000 into something a bit more powerful
    or
    2. Build something from scratch...would literally need to know every part that I would need to purchase though! :)

Any help or advice would be really appreciated!

    Cheers!

I think Komplett are doing a build your own pc class for people shortly, It sounds like it would be worth a look to get more comfortable with building a pc first.
