They were on a work to rule today.

It's been on the news for the past couple of days - SWOs around the country were closed this afternoon.

I've been reliably informed that the Galway social welfare offices haven't been answering the phones for months now, not so much as an answering machine. I've confirmed this by trying to ring them myself on two occasions. It may have been just coincidence and I rang at a busy period, but shouldn't there be an "on hold" mechanism like everyone else has or something?

The Galway SWO hasn't been answering their phones since at least this time last year.

Yes. Complain to your TD. Ultimately, SW do what the govt wants 'em to do.

No its a work to rule, think the CPSU decide on a daily basis what the industrial action for the following day will be for each department. Social welfare were closed Wednesday afternoon this week, Friday afternoon last week.
