20 people added to Live Register in February

    http://www.rte.ie/news/2010/0303/liveregister.html

By reading this you'd be forgiven for thinking that only 20 people had signed on in total in feb.....Madness....Maybe if it said 20 'more' than Jan etc

But it says 20 people added to the live register, not that only 20 people signed on.

So what ye are saying is that the live reg is not the amount of people actually signed on in the month, its something else? forgive my ignorance.
    I understand it says 'added'.
What is the live register so?

20 people added to the live register does not mean that there is only 20 people on the live register.

The headline means that there are now an extra 20 people on the live register.

The reason for the low number of people added to the register in Feb is the strike work to rule by the Social Welfare civil servants complaining about the pay cut that they are forced to endure while dealing with people who have to live with a 100% pay cut.

People without a job are 'unemployed', while people on the 'live register' are those on 'jobseekers benfit/allowance'. Not all of the former qualify for the latter.

    It is called statistics.

Yeah there are a number of reasons why there was only a small increase in Feb including perhaps Work To Rule in SFA, people in FAS training course, people leaving the country, others starting college and a tiny few getting re-employed. Live Register doesn't included pensioners either (well they are practical dead at that stage  ).

    Lies, damned lies, and statistics.

But the headline is correct according to the stats only 20 people were added to the live register, a better statistic would be how many people lost their job, how many people found employment, how many people left the country and how many people when into retirement during the month
