Tooth to broken to be crowned

well at long last I had my endo ap today and of the two teeth that
were to be root canalled and crowned it is not possible to do one as its
almost disappeared through breakage.I do believe this is the case/

I was wondering are bridges expensive? Would that be possible?
The tooth is the lower far left tooth. It is a bit visible.

The exact same tooth on the other side gave unexpected trouble last
week and endo said it may need removing as its awkwarldy positioned in the
gum and would not crown well.

I am getting so despondent at this stage...nothing is clearly put to you
and you always end up paying more.
The original dentist doing the basis work would not even consider
doing a deal for 2 crowns and I know of other dentists that do....sigh!

I am nearly sorry I started and I have already paid out an awful lot

sorry to hear you're disappointed. sometimes things can go wrong and things don't always work out despite best efforts (nobody's fault)

questionable teeth sometimes are best extracted imho and replaced with implants. it can be more predicable sometimes.

bridges are good but do fail catastrophically with enough time. implants may be a better longterm solution and although may cost more to begin with, over the long run may be more cost effective.

Thanks Vischal for your reply :)

I wonder if I got the new problem tooth extracted would it cause problems
with the other teeth moving, .....the other tooth is hardly there as it is so Iam really without a functioning tooth there for a long time

I thought implants but know they are extraordinarily expensive for me
    at the moment

How long does it take for your bridges to fail catastrophically?

The literature consensus is that the complication rate is about the same for bridges and implants. http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/journal/119126047/abstract
While the implant itself has a longer lifespan, the crown on it has the same issues as any crown. Personally if the teeth either side are in need of significant restoration then bridge but if the are intact implant. There are other considerations such as occlusion, position, aesthetics etc but generally thats the rule I follow.

Good bridge work does not fail catastrophically only bad bridgework if you want catastrophic see a technically poor implant reconstruction fail, thats a nightmare. "It aint what you do its the way that you do it, thats what gets results" ;)

Fitzgeme thank you for your interest....I really have no idea how things will
pan out...I am just finished 1st root canal ap and as I said the other tooth
is for the bullet sadly as endo says its not suitable for crown etc
I wish I hadnt this gap and as the exact tooth other side started paining
without any warning I dont know what options I have:(

Don,t get annoyed but would dentistry in Poland be up to scratch
as one of my sons will be participating in SP Olympics in Sept??
His key worker mentioned his own need for some dental work and thought
    it an option.

I am beginning to think the dentist and endo. thinks I won the Lotto and dont want that opinion to continue!!!! I have just ran in to a spell of really bad luck with the teeth!

i am sorry, just my opinion. just looking up pubmed. Scurria meta-analysis, 1/3 of bridges need need replacement after 15 yrs. 5% of abutments lost after 10 years.

i know i would rather have an unsplinted restoration, that i would not have to thread super floss under everyday.

also compare the cost of servicing a bridge vs servicing the cost of a crown on implant (not abutment) over a lifetime

Vishal the studies on fpds is usually based on insurance data and multicenter studies this shows the failure rate in a realistic way. Implant studies tend to be specialist or hospital studies than underestimate real world failure. Implants go wrong over time just like teeth. Periimplantitis, screw loosening, cement debonds, thread loosening etc, the consensus is that the implant is the better restoration in mist cases however you shoul not consider it invunerable or without problems. There was a huge cochrane meta analysis which I can find now.

Op high speed dental work is to be avoided anywhere in the world.

I started work on a Latvian (not Polish) guy today. Let me state I think Latvian dentistry is better than Polish. Today I extracted a front tooth which had root canal and crown just 2 years ago in Latvia. (he is aged 30).
over the next few weeks I hope to do about 15 fillings (mostly replacing failed restorations).
The grass is definitely not greener in eastern europe.
