Was talking to someone from Industrial Temps. I'm already signed on with a number of recruitment agencies (the silence is deafening), so I thought I'd give them a go.

Perfectly pleasant woman on the phone say "Bring your CV, driving license and bank account details." Huh?

CV, well yeah; driving license - proof of ID; bank account details - why? Never been asked for it before, so why do they need it?

Also, if anyone has had any dealings with Industrial Temps before, I'd be delighted to hear them. Going in there tomorrow.

Yeah it's pretty standard with temping agencies, I was a Temp Controller in a past life. it's just for payment purposes

That thought did occur to me - direct payment - but it's my experience that industrial temps (myself included) tend to be more cash in hand types. Makes sense that it's a way to pay you, it's just a bit odd in the context of the jobs they give you, which would include office cleaning etc. Not everyone would be guaranteed to have a bank account.

Ah well, I'll see what the story is tomorrow anyway.

When you do work through a temp agency, the agency pays you, the company you're working at doesn't. That's what they want your bank details.

You'll probably have a short enough chat/interview to ensure that you're on the level and not entirely spoofing them, then you'll go on their books. It's much less rigourous than an interview for an actual position.
