My nephew is looking for a car...something not too boring, about 1.4 engine otherwise insurance is gonna kill him. Budget is about 8k.

Suggested a Focus to him...anything else?

He's looking at a Seat Leon but its a 1.6

maybe an MGZR105, should be able to et a 05 for around 3-4k.
    Cheap 1.4 tax and insurance

Apart from the much talked about head gasket issue, they're a cool car. and nippy too with 105PS and not much weight. Way more fun than a 75hp Golf or Focus.

Spend the rest of the money on sweets

Insurance for me was cheaper on the Leon than the 1.4 Focus I had before.

Check the gearbox properly on the Leon. Only real weak area tbh. Due a timing belt at this stage too...or buy mine

How about the most recent popular choice around the motors forum, the Ford Puma:

Some think they are girly but they are alot of fun to drive plus cheap to service and run being based on a Fiesta.
