Tax credit reduced by DSFA Jobseekers Benefit

I was on Jobseekers benefit for 1 month from the beginning of 2010 until end of January.
I started working on 1 Feb, and filled 12A form to claim tax credits.
    I got 1830 € Personal tax credit and 1830 € PAYE tax credit = together 3660 €.

But there is also a reduction of 2023.40 € stated as Tax credit reduced by DSFA Jobseekers Benefit.

In the end, I got only 1636.60 € tax credit for this year.

Can anyone explain me how's that possible, that Receiving JSB for 1 month reduces my tax credit by over 2 grand.

    hmmmm,

    That looks incorrect to me.

Revenue practice is to reduce credits if there has been an underpayment in tax in a previous year- I would ring the PAYE helpline asking them to explain the reduction in credits and request a balancing statement for 2009 and 2008. It might be a previous years underpayment that has reduced your credits.

I actually applied for the doll in Deceber 2009 as I stopped working then.
I was told, I wasn't eligibile for Jobseekers Benefit then, as I didn't have enough PRSI paid in relevant tax year. In this case I applied for Jobseekers Allowance, but the case still isn't resolved as they asked me to fill in Habutual Residence Form and the form still didn't come back from Dublin. Anyway from beginning of January 2010 I became eligible for Jobseekers Benefit which I got pretty much straight away.
Case with JSA from last year is still pending.

I if was like you're saying because of last year, it would probably state JSA insted of JSB on my tax credit certificate.
I'm gonna contact Revenue anyway to find out whats the case.

    Thanks.
