    Folks ,
Are any of the features of the Sky + Box usable without the sky subscription ? I've been using FTA for 3 years now and am looking for alternatives to my crappy but tolerable (Up till now) Lidl and Maplin receiver. The sky + box in my situation is of no benefit over an ordinary sky box is it ? The interactive red button , program reminders through the EPG and digital teletext features of the sky box are what I'm interested in. Does the Technomate 5200 have the interactive red button feature ?

    Anyone ?

Can the Sky + box do anything the ordinary sky box does't do without a subscription ?

No, just works as a Sky digibox, with all the features available such as red button etc.

montgolfiere - can you still use the white sky card in them to receive five USA, fiver etc?

    Thanks

tinofapples: Have you looked at the Humax as a receiver?

You can use the new FTV card no problem. in fact i have been using a Sky+ as my main FTV receiver for years.

IS there anyway of adjusting the menu list of channels on a sky box ?

no, but you can set up a favorites list and then if you press 'TV Guide' and then the blue button, only your fav's are displayed on this function!!

hmmmz, I was always led to believe the FTV service only applies to ROI, when you manage to get your hands on a UK card?
Conversly, an expired white Irish sky card is only useful for FTV when you're resident in Northern Ireland.

Getting back to the OP, I believe this thread may be what you are after :D

Had to read this outloud a few times...Still not sure what your saying..

If im incorrect in thinking the following i apologise.

You can only get a ftv card for a UK registered address from sky or elsewhere eg Ebay. You cannot order one in ROI directly from sky for an irish address unless you use the postcode method as stated elsewhere on this forum.

An irish expired white sky card gets you nothing north or south. All you will get is the free to air channels and maybe VIVA and Liverpool TV.

So like I said, for FTV in ROI, you need a UK sourced card.

Montys post here about white cards and FTV threw me off, lol. AFAIK, the OP is resident in ROI, so there expired white card is useless, save for the SKY+/+HD fta recording trick.
