So who do you use assuming you have actually read the policy document?

Most of the ones I've looked so far don't cover sports if it is the primary purpose of the holiday. They also have single item limits of 350Euro which we all know won't cover a bike on a cycling holiday.

    This is funny.

"Cycling Travel Insurance" which does not include cover for bicycles. Genius!

Unfortuantely the Insurers don't cover the bikes themselves. They obviously got stung before and deleted it from their policies.

That's the way companies work, like if an area is prone to flooding they'll delete the cover from their property policies for that area.

I couldn't find the reference to that but at least I now know what Hydro Zorbing is.

In fairness the default CI insurance is third party and medical and doesn't cover the bikes either... this is the sort of insurance people doing organised bike stuff are interested in also.

Are you saying that the normal CI Membership gives the medical cover abroad?

It says "Territorial Validity: Worldwide" under both Personal Accident and Public Liability on the membership application form so I presume so, yes.

Went and checked this and the handbook says only covers CI approved events. Is there another document somewhere?

It is difficult to get a clear view of what is covered, it explicitly covers for example scheduled club training spins. I had cause to use the third party liability when on a long cycle on my own though so my impression is that it covers you in general.

I am going to NZ in a couple of weeks and the best adventure sports travel insurance seems to be WorldNomads.com, they give 4 levels of policy, so I'm going for level 1 which covers horse-riding, (I will be working with horses) and things like trekking to 3,000 metres and glacier walks. It covers your travel and emergency hospital cover etc which is the main thing.
You can look through each level to see what they cover. Level 1 for 5 months is €137.92.
Hope this is some use for cycling.
