unexpected deposit into bank account by Social Welfare???

    Hello,

I signed on for the last time for JSB on the 10th of February.
I was told I had "3 or 4 more weeks" on JSB and in the meantime I was to wait to hear about the means test for JSA.

I was hoping my last payment to go into the bank this Thursday (that it was indeed 4 weeks), but I just check my bank account on another matter and saw that Social Welfare have put €65 in my account.

Does anybody know what this money might be?
Am I owed it some how?
Or is it - horror of horrors - my JSA? Is that all I'll be getting each week?
I've been expecting to be called for some kind of interview and to be asked for proof I'm looking for work.
Plus, I thought Social Welfare only deposited payments into bank accounts on Thursdays (that is what they told me)?

Could this money be something else?

    Cheers

Are you sure its from them? Maybe its a balancing payment.

Definately, the details match with the previous payments.

Am I right in thinking that I will get no JSA until they call me for the means test interview?

I don't know, but I doubt they will leave you with nothing. In the worst case scenario, you would get Supplementary Welfare Allowance from the community welfare officer.

JSB can end with odd amounts as SW pays it to the exact expiry date of nine or 12 months but as you'd already put in your JSA claim (assuming you filled out application etc.,?) that payment, when it comes through, will be backdated to start from day after JSB payments ceased.

I thought they no longer paid into peoples bank accounts? How did you manage that?

Assuming you were getting the full rate, it's a two day payment.

    Full rate JSB = 196 / wk (6 days)

therefore, Day rate JSB = 32.66

multiply that by two and you get 65, which is probably what that payment was.

    So they owed me days.

    Cheers Xiney. Thanks everybody.

Out of curiosity what is the average JSA, or is it different for everybody?

it's different for everyone, it's based on your means.

there's a whole formula they use - it's available on the citizen's info site so you can try to figure out what you'd be entitled to on your own.
