    Hi,

We're considering a trip around France or possibly just Paris but aren't sure. Do you think it's better to concentrate on Paris and Disneyland? (We're in our 20's but big kids) Or do a camping trip around France?

No idea really so would love some feedback on how best to do things!!

Well after having done both, they are two completely different holidays!

Right now in Disneyland though they have 40% off if you book by April 30th! Some real bargains!
I have done the Paris/Disneyland trip with my boyfriend 4 times in the last 3 years and loved each trip. We are both also in our 20's... You cant get bored in either Paris or Disneyland!

Given the sales at the moment I would choose Paris as opposed to camping.

That sounds great, Ill check out the 40% off, thought i saw a deal like that but it was for a family of four??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 322 ✭✭SilverSparkle

Perhaps that was a different deal. The deal that is on know is 40% off for a stay of at least 4 nights or more, 30% for a stay of 3 nights and 15% off for a stay on 2 nights.
I know myself I will be booking a 4 night night stay for €475 reduced from about €780 in a couple of weeks :D

As already mentioned, you really can't compare the two types of holidays and only you will know what your family would prefer to do.

If it was a choice between a trip to Belfast (imagining that they had a Disney-type place) or camping around Donegal which would you choose?

    Camping around Donegal!:D

Think we may go for a few nights in Disney then a few nights in Paris to see the sights!

If that's the case then I wouldn't bother staying in Disneyland. Just take the 30-min €7 train from there directly into Paris. It'll be cheaper to stay/eat and more things to do in the evening.

Ha ha I'd have to disagree here... With prices in DLP at the moment so affordable I'd stay in DLP. Again I have done both holidays many times i.e. a few nights in DLP and a few in Paris, and then just a holiday where we've stayed in Paris and travelled to DLP for the day.

Stayin in DLP is so much less hassle. In the summer the DL park stays open until 11, and there is Disney village too. Also you can use the extra magical hours which let you into the park 2 hours before non-hotel guests. Also if one gets tired during the day, which is often the case, it is just a 10 min walk to your hotel for a quick nap!

Going to Paris to stay in Disneyland is like visiting Kilkenny for the weekend but staying in a B&B in Callan because it's cheaper :)

OH MY GOD how do you know exactly where I live in KK?????

After re-reading my post I realised that I said just to stay in DLP...
What I was meant to say is to do both! Stay a few nights in Paris and a few in DLP... Best of both! I would NEVER skip Paris on a trip to Paris ha! What a sin!

(on a side note I took your advice last summer at the U2 gig in Stad de France and stayed in a hotel at the airport! Best advice EVER! The queus to get back to Paris were crazy! Thanks!)

    I love it so much!!!

Go to Montemarte and visit sacre coeur and get a crepe while walking around looking at the artists!

See the Eifel Tower at Night time lit up!

If you are going for a while take a trip to Disneyland! Its only 35 mins from Gare de Lyon on the RER A.

Take account that the Louvre closes on Tuesdays.
But entrance is free on Friday evenings for 18-25 year olds.

Go to Versaille. It is so beautiful.

Have a meal in The Latin Quarter. The atmosphere is brilliant.

Walk Up the champs elysees at night.

    Enjoy your trip!

Avoid looking like a tourist on the metro with bags hanging open and cameras all over the shop.

Avoid buying drinks in food in tourist places that will charge €5 for a coke.

As far as I can remember when i got the Paris Visite ticket last summer it was €35 for zones 1-7. Definitely worth it.

Also avoid eye contact on the metro. You never know who is there.
Here is a post from a thread created a year ago that might help and here is the thread

    No problem!
And if you have any questions about Disneyland that I can answer don't hesitate to ask! I have been there 16 times! The most recent was in January!

Im heading to DLP on wed with my other half, we are both first timers and Im feeling a little apprehensive about getting from airport to hotel. Would it be quicker to get a train or bus? And where do I go to get them?
We are also going to Paris for a day, could you tell me the station we should get off the metro to be closest to the sights, please? Im really excited and have read the other threads on what to do. But Id be grateful of any advise, thanks.

It depends on which airport are you flying to and with which airline?

The easiest way to get from CDG to DLP is by using the VEA Navette Shuttle
It costs €17 per person each way but you arrive in DLP in about 45 mins.

As regards to Pairs, Ponster would be able to fill you in much better than me... the stop Charles de Gaulle etoile is on the line which you get on at DLP and it is at the arc de triomphe....

If you answer my first question I can help you much more :)

Thanks a million! How many days would be enough to do everything at Disneyland? 2 or 3??

As someone who lives in France at least half the year, but not in my 20s I'd be tempted to camp anywhere but in the Paris region....

However, Paris is fantastic, even DLP!!! I don't recall if you said how long you were planning to be here, don't be tempted to try too much, Paris requires a week just to do the basics, E Tower, Louvre, Marais, La Defense, Sacre Couer, etc., etc.

Good advice above on 7day tickets, minding your bag and eating in tourist areas. Lots of pickpockets in the popular places, but better recently than a few years ago.

If you've time/inclination to travel outside P, head for the West Coast or the South, but it takes longer. The area around Lorient is nice also the Vendee but they bore the brunt of the recent storms.

Are you flying or boating over? If boating to Cherbourg then stay around there to camp and take the train to Paris and back to Cherbourg for the trip home.

If flying, the next stop on the train from Roissy/CDG is Disneyland, handy.

    Whatever, bon voyage......
