    Hi guys.

A few weeks back I got pulled in at newlands cross city bound by a gard (I was Already stopped at the traffic lights) when the Garda approached my van.
Conversation went somewhere along the line of u was doing 120kmh in the 100kmh zone.
I was extremely polite to the gard in question, Apologised etc told him I thought Naas road was the same as a motorway speed so was really only a bt over the limit.
I should add here, that I have a 6 county license (issued in Co Derry) but I live here Mon to Fri due to business committments.
The gard struck up light conversation with me as in how business was, we made chat about Ulster GAA etc.
He hen told me to go on about my business and that I MIGHT get a ticket in the post.
5 weeks later I get a letter to say my fine hS been increased to 120€ from 80 as I failed to pay within 28 days???
What's the story here? I never got an 80euro fine to begin with!
I was honest enough to give the gard my address here in the south, I answered all his questions honestly! He said he MAY issue a fine bt. Got dddly squat in the post!

What does Gucky do from here on in folks?

Pay the €120, and get on with your life.

Jeez thanks for the extremely informative answer P.C. Curious here, how many letters have you after your name?

In fairness he's right. If you don't pay the €120 you'll be summonsed to court and risk an even bigger fine. The 'lost in the post' excuse doesn't really wash anymore

Well, what else are you going to do?

Going to court will not do you any favours.

Speaking to the Gadra who caught you will get you nowhere.

So, the easiest thing to do, is pay the €120, and put it behind you.

Oh, and I only have two letters after my name, but my last name is 11 letters long. :D

I certainly would sympathaise with your experience . Probably did not reach his quota for the week . By the way if he was traveling on his own in the car or did not have the equipment in the car to determine your speed he is in no position to fine you .
Then again sadly if you take it to court the damm solicitor will charge you more even if he looses your plight .

A criminal would have more rights

NAAS road is 100km , its sign posted.

You were speeding dude and caught, just pay the fine.

Garda stop you when they have a record on the laser gun.

If you dont pay the 120 the next stage is a summons to the district court.

Then if you are convicted it would not look good for you. i.e. could lose your job.

Next time tell him you left your license in your car (it was a van you were driving, right?)

AFAIK, to issue the penalty they need your License number and if they dont have that, they might not bother their arse putting it through.

It happened to me, i genuinely had left my license in the car, and hey, no fine, even though the guard was a hindred per cent I'd be getting one.:P

I doubt the reason for you not getting the fine etc had anything to do with you not having your licence with you.

I dont know. It was a guard i was talking to after reckoned it might have had something to do with it as he said they need the number to send the details to co clare or wherever the fine place is.

The guard who stopped me was fairly miserable. He could have given me a warning, it was near christmas and was obvious i was in a work van. that is why i was so surprised when it didn't materialise.

Not entirely true. While there is an option to enter the licence number by the guard it is not required. The person receiving the fine does however have to write in their own licence number when returning the fine to the fixed penalty office.

You speed you pay the fine.

I'm not an old geezer ranting at boyracers in fast cars - but you did the crime, admitted it and got fined. It would be more hassle to show up in court for it, so just pay up.
The Nass Road is not a motorway and us Dubs know that, but they have loads of accidents there so I can see the cops having speed traps there.

similar situation to a friend of mine, got caught by the guard (not on gun, lone garda, no proof of speeding), admitted speeding, received fine and forgot to pay, went to court said he hadnt received it and 5 seconds later the judge struck it out. more than likely you would find the same result

Does not producing your license not warrant a penalty point nowadays?

    Just pay the fine dude...

The never received the fine defence is gone, too many people where using it. You'll get the full whack if you go to court and have to take time off work.
