    Hey guys!

I've just got a few questions (and items... ), that I was thinking about for the upcoming ArmaII themed event in Wales, hosted by TA.

So, apart from the usual milling around, a few items have popped up that I think I need...

For a start. A 3-Day-Assault Pack, is it worth an investment? From carrying H2O bladder, to wet clothes, to sleeping gear? I think its a very much needed piece, but when you are a minor trying to save your pretty pennies for the event, they can be quiet dear. So I was looking for something small, light, not too pricey, and something to fit over a CIRAS. Any suggestions?

Comms, the word has popped up a couple of times, but its got me all confused, should I need a radio? I dont play on a team, and I dont even know what side I'm playing on. Although its looks to be the green team. Seeing as I'm not going to be buying a new set of BDU's anytime soon.

As for my last question, I might be better asking on the forums themselves. But I'll try here, seeing as minors are asked to wear full face protection and all, would a shemagh and a pair of goggles do them?

Thanks again all. Any answers are appreciated.

    -Delta.

I'll deal with the most pertinent question first. Best get in contact with wormbyte over at TA-Events and ask what's considered acceptable as face protection for a minor.

You may also need to have somebody willing to act as guardian. Ozcam can probably give a preliminary answer, although Wormbyte would have the final word on the matter.

There are kit lists posted somewhere on boards; I just can't seem to find them right now. But first, in summary of how the game will pan out, you'll generally bring sleeping kit/etc. with you but put it in base-camp for later use whilst you run around during the day/evening/night/whatever. Typically you'll be carrying aeg/sidearm/mags (obviously) and then ammo, spare batteries (maybe), water (really, really do bring this or you'll knacker yourself), and some sort of light food/snacks (and be sure to eat or you'll run yourself into the ground by 4pm-ish)

On to your questions; a 3-day pack or bergen is a good investment anyway if you're interested in travelling to events over long distances, or playing in events which require you carry more than webbing. You can basically leave spare change of clothes, etc. in car and keep stuff like sleeping kit, cooking kit, etc. for the game in your pack in the base-camp where yuo can get at it reasonably easily. You wont really be expected to run around carrying it all day although that all said and done, if you've got your stuff in a forward outpost, you may have to grab it and run if it looks like you're about to be overrun. etc.

So whilst plan not to be wearing a pack *much*, ask youself these questions on the off-chance that you do need to wear it at some point:
    • Is it comfortable
    • Can I wear it over my webbing without great effort
    • How badly does it impede my movement
    • Can it carry what I need it to? - and by extension, am I carrying too much if the answer is "no".
    • Does it look like it's straining and about ready to fall apart.
    • Is it comfortable (again).

Comms are always handy, although Sennybridge is a comms blackhole; between the building materials, the MOD micro-climate * and Scalies ** having fun messing with signal frequencies, good comms will suffer, cheap comms will be utterly ineffectual. If you're strapped for cash, I'd perhaps hold off on decent comms kit and stick close to your section in-game.

    Other things you will absolutely need for Sennybridge;

Water proof stuff. Oh god yes. If you could fit a canoe into your day-pack, bring it. You may get two days of glorious sunshine. More likely you'll get a flood of rain ***

Comfy footwear with good walking socks. Look after your feet and they'll look after you.

Warm clothing. Yes yuio'll be running around and being sweaty. Yes you'll freeze your balls off come evening time. You are high up in the Breacons in Wales. Plan for that.

    * Popular belief has it that the MOD has a specially controlled micro-climate that exists only within the boundaries of the cattle-grids at the Sennybridge Training Area; designed to make squaddies as miserable as possible.

    ** Signals Engineers.

    *** Ref. MOD Micro-climate.

lemming pritty much covered the important stuff, ian had also put together a guide http://www.ta-events.co.uk/guides/weekendguide/ along with some other stuff as wel http://www.ta-events.co.uk/guides/l

this is also ozcams post about minors in the ta events thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=64504631&postcount=229

and a post i did with feedback from people, though it might be good to put it hear as well
have to agree with fayers list good basic list to start

BDU - good quality BDU seen a fair few pairs of ebay 20usd rip and give way in no time, invest in a good hard wearing pair, i would not go with gear that is waterproof ( e/g like gortex) as you will just get to hot, best bet is to pack some light weight rain wear even just a jacket, also pack soem warm weather gear again a jacket is perfect, weather can change very fast in wales

Boots - again good quality boots something that you have warn in and comfortable with as you will be in them for a long time

load bearing - again good quality load bearing, best to leave your plate carryer at home and go with light weight and functional get rid of anything that is not 100% needed for the game

backpack - something like a 3 day assualt pack again go with good quality, you do not want the ass failing out of it half way thought the day, 3 day is good size for your warm and wet gear and some food, you can also throw a hydration pack in them

knee pads - or even just one, your playing in concrete building with lots of bb on the floor, kneeling on them is not good

comms - licence free no need to go out and pay hundreds of euros for top end and get a licence and all that stuff , you can pick up a decent motorola xtn or next model down can pick them up on ebay cheap a lot of security companys going out of business selling stuff off then again there all working on the same frequency some of the cheaper pmr perform rather well when we where there but it was hit and miss , but pmr is not perfect for that built up environment and can be unreliable for the reasons fayer gave, also there are a lot of people trying to use a small number of channels, as i said not perfect but useful at time

aeg - something reliable, remove any extra crap, lasers m203 all the stuff that is just bling and not needed and you will not want to be carrying round the extra weight

pistol - always good as a backup and considering it is semi in building, somtimes an advantage over the aeg due to szie

torch - you will need to for navigation and for clearing buildings, best bet is to go with a small torch LED and a LED headlamp both with spare batterys

magazine - you will need midcap, as rifileman you will have a limit of 600 rounds per life so depending on capacity of the mags you will need between 4 - 6 and a couple of spares, also you will need a speedloader

some form of storage for pyros, you do not want to be throwing them in your bdu pockets where they can go off, dump pouch is a good idea and a little safer

batterys - go with good quality and have spares as you may not be able to charge them or have time to charge them

baby wipps - worth there weight in gold

tent/sleeping bags - you will need sleeping bag and sleeping matt for friday night, a tent between a few guys is also good if you need to sleep out of game

when working out what to carry always keep it to a minimal and keep it simple

alsi read the rules a couple of time untill you know them, there very differant to anything you will have used in ireland
