I've read the charter and I don't think I'm breaking any rules here. If so then please feel free to lock this post or delete it.

I was wondering if I might enlist the help of the movie forum boardsies in giving me their opinion on my movie (and music) review site.

I did get some feedback from the web design forum a while back but that was more from a technical point of view. I would love to know what genuine film buffs think of the idea.

    All feedback is much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    KJF.

Well, it's a good idea having a short review on films for those who want it but you have major competition with already established websites that use reviews from critics to sum up the average score (RottenTomatoes for example)

Rottentomatoes is a very big site but, if you manage to get a wider and more active user group to add their own pieces then the website should gain a name of it's own.

Don't focus too much on other known critic sources to get the average score as the site won't be different from any of the others.

Other than that the site has potential, good luck with it.

EDIT: Just a thought, maybe you should change the colour scheme of the "Recent Movie Reviews" tab on the right. Maybe darken the red background and lighten the text color?

I read three of these thinking "this isn't much of a review" before I realised I was reading the synopses and completely missing the reviews. Light grey on slightly lighter grey doesn't make the actual review stand out, which kind of defeats the purpose of the whole site.

Other than that - it's a really good site.

Thanks Duggy747, I agree with all your points.

One thing I've tried to do to set it apart from the big guys is to allow users to follow one another, much like twitter. What this means is then when you sign up and start to follow a few people who's opinions you respect then you'll see all their reviews in one place in a live feed called the dashboard.

But whats even better is you can then opt to filter all reviews by people you follow so in that way you only get the average scores of people who's opinion you care about.
I'm hoping some touches like this will set it apart.

Thanks ObeyGiant, I've been working on this so long that I've got some pretty big blinkers on. I know the site inside out so it's difficult for me to spot things like this so this kind of feedback is much appreciated. I'll fix this straight away.
