I have a new Targa Traveller 1534 laptop. Came with Vista installed but I put Ubuntu 9.10 on instead.

Having a problem with the built in microphone in that it is not working at all. It's also not listed under the input tab of Sound Preferences. I've searched the Ubuntu forum for a fix but found nothing. Can anyone help an Ubuntu newb? Thanks.

My microphone isn't directly listed either. It's not the kind of hardware that'll be detected. Only the sound card is detectable really.

So....In the volume control widget in your system tray (double click to bring up the dialog) choose file->change device->

in there there'll be a "capture" source. Choose one and make sure it looks somewhat like the attached picture (i.e. volume turned up).

Alternatively, in a terminal run "alsamixer" and when it opens up press tab to go to the mic section. Make sure the volume is turned up.
