New job and paid monthly..but stuck for money

    just started a new job wont be paid till the end of the month and i have to ring the dole office to sign off..but what can i do for money?? im so broke and ill have rent to pay..should i get a bank overdraft or can you ask a social welfare officer??

    Try the bank first then the Welfare Officer if you have no luck.

    You may in fact be entitled to a back to work allowance, if you were long term unemployed, as you are technically not getting paid for a month i would suggest you mention this at the social welfare office, bring your contract if available, they may give you some grace!, worth a try.

    I'd be inclined to talk to the SW officer, I'm sure he/she will understand your situation. Are you not caliming Rent Allowance to help with your rent payments?

    Also if you get an advance from you employer, its like you are robbing Peter to pay Paul and following month cash flow will still be tight. I'd try to tough it out for this month!

    Well I've heard of guys staying on the dole until payday. with no reporcussions. Good job the public computer system is stone-age!

    Obviously we cant advocate doing that.

    Also if you are caught there are massive penalties apparently
