Windows XP boot camp install problem

    Hi all,

Just tried to install XP on my intel mac mini. I partitioned the disk with Boot Camp to 10 gB and that went ok. I then inserted the windows disk and proceeded with the install. After a little while, the disk was ejected and the following message appears " No Bootable Device -- Insert boot disk and press any key" I reinserted the disk but keyboard remained completely unresponsive. I had to unplug the mini to restart, and when i did the same screen appeared, even though the windows disk was not in the drive! Panic time!! I eventually got the mini to work by holding down the "alt' key during startup, and selecting the Mac OS.
I had to delete the boot camp partition to get the mini working normally. I have looked on several forums, including Apple, and this seems to be a widespread problem. None of the sites gave a definitive solution to this problem.
Has anyone here come up with a fix for this problem.

P.S. the reason I am trying to install windows is that my son needs to use Visual Basic, which apparently is not available for the mac. If anyone knows how to get VB working on a mac, it would be great!

    Thanks

I'm not quite sure why this happens. I think the system sets the windows disc or bootcamp partition as the startup disk and then gets confused. Holding alt on startup will usually get you out of it.

It's definitely a full Windows disc, yeah? Not an upgrade?

Maybe try again - provided you have a backup of course.

Re-partiton the disk using Bootcamp again and follow the install. If it spits out the disc again: reboot while holding alt, reinsert the windows disc and click it.

EDIT: oh and you should never pull the plug. Hold the power button instead if you have to force a shutdown.
