Was going to put this in the Fitness forum, but figured the lovely ladies of F&A would have more advice for me :D Mods please feel free to move!

Basically, I'm finally getting around to my New Year's Resolution to join a gym and not necesarily lose weight, but definitely become fitter and more toned! I've organised my first session with a personal trainer at the gym later on the week, but have a few questions about attire first! I'm a 34 B/C depending on what brand of bras (I've decided to go get fitted tomorrow to be 100% sure!), but am wondering how essential a sports bra is? I don't really own anything of the sort as I've never really been the gym-going kinda person! I'm not quite sure what my fitness regime is going to be comprised of (shall be decided/advised in session I presume) but should I go and buy a sports bra anyway?! Also what brands would you ladies recommend? Preferably something that won't break the bank!!

Thanks in advance for any help :P

Pennys are selling them at the moment.... I bought one for the laugh for those days where im extremely hungover and cant be bothered to get dressed....

It is by far the most comfortable thing iv ever bought. And nothing moves down there!! This is coming from someone who wears a DD!!!!
They're under a tenner, and they do the job to hold everything in position, great if your using the treadmill or bicycle.

Your probably as well off to pick up one or two from Pennys, that way they wont break the bank and if you change your mind on wearing them, its not major loss to your funds :D Although i would recommend wearing one, even if its just for those days when wearing something with an under-wire is not on the menu!

I think if you're doing any amount of running up and down or strenuous exercise, it's in your best interest to invest in one. I paid €38 [I think] in M&S for when I'm at the gym, and nothing moves! It's great! I'd be very conscious otherwise of having my bits flopping up & down, the belly is bad enough!

But yeah, for your health also, it's not good to have the boobies flying about the place, and it's just really uncomfortable when you're doing exercise anyhow! :)

Thanks for theli so far keep 'em coming! ;) Just another quick question to add though, would you recommend a wired or non-wired one? Also having a quick look online, it seems most sports bras have fairly wide straps for obvious reasons... However, I often like wearing cami's for excercising so are they any with thinner straps?! Thanks again

Don't worry so much about the fashion element of them.... You'll only be wearing them for what? an hour a day? possibly 2? I wouldnt worry a whole lot about straps etc. It's the gym!!!

And DEFO go for one without an under-wire, the material that they are made from is enough to keep you held in a perked up!

The Shock Absorber bra's are the best I find. They sell them in Debenhams and they come in different strength depending on what exercise you will be doing.

They last for year and wash really great, well worth the money and the prevention of saggy boobs :D

Wearing a sports bra while exercising is a no-brainer in my view. Your breasts need the support. Over the years, gravity does enough damage to your breasts, without you adding to the decline.

Berlei Shock Absorbers are fantastic sports bra which come in different strength levels, with Level 4 being the 'strongest'. I'd recommended a non-wired for comfort, but a Level 4 Shock Absorber will provide plenty of support, even without a wire.

I've never liked the shock absorbers...fit is really weird on them!

I love Sportsjock...you can get them online...they basically flatten everything right into your chest and there's not a jiggle or a bounce to be had til you take it off!! I wear them for everything from step classes to road running

Thanks for all the suggestions :D Ended up getting various ones from Shock Absorber, M&S and Penneys! Used to S.A. one today and loved it! Definitely worth the money! Can't say I'm too impressed by Penneys, but definitely agree that they're gonna be very handy for vegging out days ;) Another quick question, sorry if this seems silly, but what do most ladies wear to the gym? Will simple tracksuit bottoms/sweatpants and a tee/tank top suffice? That's what I wore today and was pretty comfortable, but was getting rather warm in tracksuit bottoms so was wondering what sort of shorts I could wear? I don't really fancy going out and buying a whole lot of gym gear but the only "athletic" shorts I own would be along the following lines http://www.cheap-abercrombie.com/images/614178399183598238.jpg.. Would they be alright for the gym or would they be a complete no-no? Also how suitable are leggings for working out? And are there any materials/colours which I should avoid? Sorry if this seems a bit silly to some of you. Just don't want to make a complete fool of myself :p: Thanks again in advance

I don't think what you wear is a huge deal, as long as you're comfortable enough to move around and exercise properly. I wear something like these, and a tshirt or string top http://www.asos.com/Nike/Nike-Knit-Knot-Yoga-Capri/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=830030&SearchQuery=sports&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=20&sort=-1&clr=Black
Grey is a colour I'd avoid though, shows up sweat very clearly :p

Someone here might have ideas or suggestions for me....

I have been looking for a sports bra for ages for dancing. I do a lot of dancing and occassionally performances, and being a D cup I need a good bit of support. However, costumes are usually fairly thin and often light in colour, so my regular black sports bra looks terrible under them. The straps show really badly, and as costumes are often low cut you can see the top of the bra too. Not a good look.

So far, I have ended up having to wear a black teeshirt all the time, but it doesnt look right for a lot of the costumes.

    http://www.figleaves.com/uk/product.asp?product=Shock-Absorber-Support-Level-3-5-in-1-multiway-sports-bra&product_id=BB-B5021&size=&colour=Black

This one seems to be the best that I have found so far, but nowhere in Galway has this one, and I am reluctant to order online as I have found Shockabsorbers to be slightly funny fit so I'd like to try it on first. Plus, ideally I need a nude coloured bra for under white tops. Oh and I have looked at bras sold specifically for dance but they dont seem to offer the level of support a D cup needs.

    So any suggestions or ideas?
