"Wrong" rubbish in recycle bin

Is there a fine for people who put the “wrong” rubbish into the recycle bin? Or what happens?

The reason I am asking is that I live in an apartment complex with a recycle bin (paper, plastic, cans, etc...) and two “normal” bins. It turns out that all three bins get emptied in the same waste disposal truck. I’ve asked the waste disposal company about that and they told me that this happens a lot for communal/apartment complex rubbish bins, as there is always at least one tenant who can’t figure out what bin to use... Therefore the “recycle” waste gets contaminated by “normal” waste and the recycling centre won’t accept it...

Now, if we each had our own bins, then of course we’d know who the culprit was, and the waste disposal company probably wouldn’t pick up that person’s recycle bin and that person would hopefully learn what to do. Would the waste disposal company ever give a fine to that person, or what normally happens?

This alwasy gets me, some people are stupid... my house mate for example recycles everything, dirty plasitc covered in meat juice anything that is remotely made from paper/ plastic or metal, he thinks hes the best recycler (word?) ever, when all hes doing is contaminating perfectly good material.
    anyway / rant

Have you a residents commity/ management company... some over the top signage, and a notice round to all the apartments would do the trick.

I imagine its a probelm with most apartment blocks.

I already started writing a letter to the management company with some ideas, e.g. sending a letter to all tennants, putting up some stickers on the bins, as they are not labelled, etc...
Thought if there was a fine or something, that could be put in the letter too, to "scare" people to either recycle properly or just not to use the recycle bin ;-)

check with the local authority / oxygen or whoever collects the bins

SDCC once sent me a snotty letter warning of a €1,500 fine years back for putting packing cardboard in the green bin.The sort of cardboard that's ALWAYS been recycled even before it was popular and far purer than paper or cornflake packets.

We have signs on all our bins in work and people still put the wrong stuff into them and the people I work with are supposed to be smart. Most people are lazy by nature and the rest couldn't give a damn.

I don't think there is a way to stop people being stupid, but if you find one you'll make a fortune.

Unless you put CCTV into the bin shed then there's no way of proving someone placed the wrong rubbish in a bin and I doubt your MC could afford to pay someone to watch the recordings anyway.

If you find that patent it immediately and sell it faster!!!

It wrecks my head how people don't recycle, its easy and even lazy people can do it once you get into the habit. I plauged my sister into recycling everything recyclable :D

Its about changing peoples habits!!! Hard to do unless money is involved:mad::eek:

All three bins go into the Same truck

and yet you worry about mixin em up, when you Know they are gonna be mixed up in the truck.

I love how this recycling mania has created a whole new generation of Willing [[GREEN[/i]Stasi Members, ready to inform on their neighbours at the drop of a hat(or incorrect piece of Litter as the case )

Seems to me that its just a convenient method by which Bin Companies can charge you more to have 2 bins, and ye lap it up and would demand more if ye could.

Does anyone remember the days when Bin collection was considered the DUTY of the Council, before they started charging you for them to do their Job?

Back in the days of rates and stuff

Knew a bin man, one of his colleagues was off work and had to get stitches because someone put glass in a plastic bag, and ye olde galvanised metal bins used to rot, wheelie bins FTW

I used to be thought that Hitler could never have come to power in the UK, as there were numerous outlets for someone of that type conducting double decker buses in the UK which were absent in Germany.

Since we lost double decker buses in Ireland, we have become a very bossy nation. I had a long flight with Kenya Airwars recently and was very impressed by how un-bossy and pleasant their staff are compared to most airlines today. When the seat belt light come on during turbulance, there was an absence of staff rushing about doing their usual school marm act of putting on their strident voices and bossing everyone. i think, sometimes, we don;t recognise what a bossy place the world has become.

Someone should tell Dublin Bus that all their buses are gone.

You are quite right, I meant since conductors have disappeared in Dublin.

bus conductors in a rubbish thread ;-)

mailed my mail to the Management Company - they weren't aware of this at all. Also found out that we're apparently paying lots of money to the refuse company, so might as well make good use of that and get the rubbish right.
