Depression

I have recently been suffering dark depression. I have also come to the realisation that I have been depressed in some form or another for years. I fall through each day, look forward to nothing, I abandon all my interests and responsabilities and just kinda survive.

I have always rejected the idea of medication, however this time round, I have agreed with my doctor to give meds a try. He has put me on gerozac (prozac) and says I could be looking at taking it for 1 to 2 years. After the first 4 weeks on the pill, I feel no improvement so he has now doubled the dosage.

I have also got some counselling going and am looking into the possibilities of securing long term counselling however, the thoughts of being on prozac for such a long time is itself, depressing me.

Are there others out there who have gone down the medication route? and if so, I guess I would just love to hear that I am doing the right thing? I hear a lot of negatives about these drugs and I guess I am scared.

People react differently to different medication, really. It's trial and error unfortunately, but in the long run, it's worth it.
Make sure you take it every day and tell your doctor about any side-effects you may be experiencing; he'll switch onto something else.

Best of luck with it and there should be no stigma with taking the medication- it will give you the leg-up you need right now :)
