Sky Install Questions

    Hi

I am thinking of getting Sky+ installed and I was wondering what kind of quality work I can expect. I have NTL in at the moment but I plan on moving the TV to a different part of the room with no existing cabling. It will be up against an exteriior wall so I assume it should be easy enough to drill through it and run the cables to the dish but will I be left with 2 cables comming out of the wall or a proper wall plate?

You should have this on the outside of the wall http://www.dastv.co.uk/images/pht/md/3080_DAS0256.jpg
and this on the inside of the wall http://www.satellitesuperstore.com/images/holetidy.jpg

Thanks for the info guys - if I get a local installer what are my chances of getting someone to put a plate in?

km79: AFAIK you will need 2 cables from the dish for Sky+, if you want to be able to record one channel while watching another you will both cables brought down to the box.

right if the two new lines have to come down side of house and in thru wall could i leave existing feed as is and use it to bring red eye connection to another room? i was going to ask the sky lad to do this anyway but might be no need if i am going to get 2 new feeds anyway?

2 feeds into your Sky box from external wall.
1 additional feed (RF2 connection rear of SKY box) to take off into another room.

    hope this helps anyone :)

is the existing feed from a satellite dish? if so you can move this to a new location and watch the free channels.

no need for a Magic eye.

yep the existing feed is from the dish si i am going to use it to wathc free channels in one room but because rte not on the fta i might still use a red eye for the bedroom . one thing though this will mean 3 feeds to/from the dish????/

    yes.
they will be putting in a quad anyway.

you can always just run a line from the new box to new location and use the magic eye, but you will have to watch whatever is on in the main room.
