You would have to get a ZV or county reg plate if you are registering it in southern ireland.

you need the log book/v5 or cert of permanent export to reregister the car the fee 52€ i think and if the model beetle is on the computer they should be able to give you reg there and then.as above the reg could be worth a few quid doing a bit of checking before you lose it with the vrt office,i stupidly lost fmn iy which was valued at 1500gb before i realised it could be transferd

    Kadman,
its years since i looked but Elite used be willing to put a price on a number, they would not buy it off you, they would advertise it at that price and take a cut.

to transfer the no you need the car to pass mot and be taxed, which may be a lot of work ,but worthwhile if the number is valuable.

there are not many NI numbers which give a client their initials as all of them will contain either a z or an i.
from 1966 the number may well be 2 letters, e.g. PZ, or LZ, so unless Patrick Zachary, or Lisa Zuchesi or some such person wants it ,you wont get mega bucks for it.
if so it sounds interesting , if it has four digits it could give a customers year of birth.

My personal feeling on re reging cars is that the number onit is part of its history, you may well source old photos with it on it. I would not re reg it, if I owned it.
    regards Rugbyman

By the way there are many, many ROI numbers which could fetch big money in the UK, but are not transferable now, they had been in the distant past.
one that springs to mind is 1 ANI from wicklow which with judicious spacing can read IAN 1.
All the JIM s from galway also, the famous VIP1 and the sing along EIE10

Well if it needs an mot and tax,,, thats out at the moment. As its sitting in a field, and needs a full resto, so it would be probably 12-18 months before it would be fit for a test or tax. Its no big deal either way.

Thanks for the info, nice to no this all the same.
