Buying a Laptop - Probably Dell

I want to buy a laptop.

I wish Dell would just recommend the best laptop for different price ranges.

Special offers, new offers - but no advice.

Has anyone any advice or know the best Dell to buy.

IU want to spend between €400-€600.

Have a read of THIS. There is a lot of difference between laptops in your price range.

Just using it for working from home and general home computer.

I assume Dell are very trust worthy, dont want the hassle of buying from a website and then there is a problem.

I know nothing about processors etc - I just want a future proof laptop that I wont regret buying in 6 weeks - with a relativley large screen

You will need to spend time to figure out the best laptop for you. I'm not sure someone else can figure it out for you without asking 100 questions.

The good thing about the Dell site is that you can compare them side by side.

Based on the limited information you've provided, you could try something like an Inspiron 17 with €123 off until 03/03/2010 or a Vostro 1720 with €90 discount.

I just assumed that the laptops with the biggest reductions were the laptops which were older or near the end of the line.

Theres no such thing as future proof.

If for some bizarre reason you want a Dell, Get the Inspiron 17 with Win 7 home premium. Don't touch the Vostro, they're muck.

If you want something that will actually last long enough to go out of date, make it a Toshiba or a Sony.

Models - no idea.

Though if you're buying from laptops direct, you should get the pre-shipping check. I got a DOA from them in the past, took a couple of weeks to get it replaced.

Not necessarily. Dell tends to have a 48-hour super sale every 48 hours.
