21 years after its introduction, it seems that there are no more XMs on irish roads. Just did a quick check on the usual sites and it appears that there are no XMs for sale at the moment in ireland...

I've had several of these magnificent cars over the years.

Now, what do you think? Classics or not?

one can debate the meaning of Classic,
in my opinion the xm fits the bill,

not sure why but the CX fits its better

and the ID/DS is the Bees Knees

    regards Rugbyman

I passed one outside Mitchelstown heading for Cork last Wednesday night, another electrical nightmare from Citroen by all accounts, i'm still waiting for the C6 to come down to around 4k and then i'll buy one.:D

The mark 1 XM 1989-1994 has notoriously poor electrical contacts which caused hair-tearing problems but the Mr 2 was much better with high quality gold used, the interior is rather tider too as overall build standard was boosted.

You want a C6? Mmmm, consider this....
The Xantia/XM range has 5 or 6 spheres, depending on the model, costing €31 each...
The spheres for the C6 cost €200 each... and there's 10 of them!!!

Totally agree. The Mk2 is defo the better option. Most of the XMs i owned were Mk2 models

Still a bit new for me Dave :p

I'll stretch to a BX though at the present moment in time.

If you go for a BX, either go for the 19 GTi or the 17 TZD Turbo :-)

Build quality was a disaster, but what great fun to drive :p

I was watching a rerun of Top Gear on Dave last night, one of the 2009 shows. Jay Leno was on as the Star in the Reasonably Priced Car. Has anyone seen that show?
When JC was going through the list of cars that Jay Leno owns, there was a Citroen XM in there :-)

I'm not going to get in "classic" argument, I'm going to get a "cherished" one.

I suppose I go by the stage in life the car is at which loosely correlates to how old it is. Some cars bypass some stages.

Noticed them which they're are fresh out of the crate.
Loads around and don't bat an eye-lid.
Dwindling numbers: all in the scrapyard. (bread 'n' butter cars may get to 10-20 years depending on how they are treated and lose to the desire to be kept when the bills mount up)
    Rock bottom prices.
Makes you go "I haven't seen one of those in ages"
Makes you want to go to all the trouble of fetching one from the UK as there's none left here. :p

    (^ fill in any gaps)

Every vehicle hits the trough in the price/desirability curve in it's lifetime. How long it stays in the trough and whether it survives to come out of it really depends on whether anyone looks after/throws some money at a car because they want to keep it going.

Anyway, I mentioned the BX as it's a bit older and I just had to chuck some spanners at '92 19TXD auto for someone to keep it out of the scrapper. Very economical, light and simple diesel engine compare to some of the later stuff. I prefer non-turbos as it's one less thing to go wrong ;)

"The Jay Leno test" is generous though. It would be simpler to list what cars he hasn't got or previously owned. :pac:

I know it's off-topic, but what do people think of its sister car, the Peugeot 605?:

    PEUGEOT-605---1997-1998-.jpg

I know it's not the best picture, but I always loved these.

I imagine they'd a be a good buy. I know they are a better driving experience than the likes of a Granny/Rover 800/Omega the only down side now is the pesky XUD11 engine capacity, which at 2088cc means a whack of road tax for not much extra power than a 2000cc derv.

Haven't seen an XM yet on Jay Leno's Garage, but it wouldn't surprise me to see one there. This is the man who is equally enthusiastic about his Fiat Millecento Berlina as he is about his McLaren F1, so I can imagine him appreciating a car like the XM. He definitely has a DS, but he hasn't done a feature on it yet.

605 = bland XM withouth the hydraulic troubles :D

Lovely car though....Very few of them around these days.
