    I found a big oil patch where I park my car. I had a look underneath and the front tray was sodden with oil. I took it up to a mechanic who said it wasn't the sump, but it might be the oil feed line (could be wrong terminology, cant remember exactly what he said) to the turbo. He needs time to have a look at it and he couldn't quote me how much it was going to cost to replace.

    Anyone ever have this problem before?? Would anyone have a ballpark figure for the cost of replacing that part??

    It could be a number of things,when you were drivin was it underpowered mite be pipe from turbo sometimes the clip that holds the pipe comes loose and it draws air also how long ago was it serviced and wat miles has she,i am just tryn to narrow it down.

    Its just due a service right now, 107,000 miles and 8 years old. Timing belt was done about 5,000 miles ago. It wasn't underpowered in the slightest, I only knew about it when i saw the grass where I park stained with oil. I think the mechanic said there was oil visible from the top of the engine too. He's gonna get back to me in the next day or two because he's busy, but it would be nice to know how much this is gonna cost me.

    Is it a large flow of oil or just a lil trickle?

    I had a similar problem. The crank case seal or something of a similar name was gone and needed to be replaced.

    It cost 300 to be fixed (also a coolant temp sensor was replaced).
    Anyway, I was ripped a bit off I think so Id say you could find someone cheaper.

    That is if its the same problem of course.
    Id say that seals generally die at some point but oil feeds to turbos I would imagine would be more sturdy. It could just be a little think like what happened to me.

    Btw, I have a 1.9 TDI too.

    That bloody sump guard is more hassle than its worth, either it falls off or retains a rake of oil so you don't know theres a problem until it overflows :P

    The reason it was a lil trickle for me was because there is a gash in the sump protector so it doesnt hold oil like another poster complained about. Maybe yours was slowly leaking out untill something gashed it or it just overflowed.

    Anyway, neither here nor there.

    I hope its the problem I had, because I would imagine its the less scary and cheaper. I dunno if I would like to have a less then 100% flow of oil heading to the turbo.

    Could be a number of things. Not uncommon for the PCV to get blocked. When this happens, crankcase pressure can force oil past all manner of rubber seals, which ends up dripping down te engine and collecting in the tray.If it was the pressurised oil feed to the turbo that was leaking, you'd know about it, before long the oil pressure light would come on fairly quickly. If it is the ol return from the turbo leaking, this wouldn't become evident as quickly.Best to have engine washed down and run up and thoroughly inspected for the leak first.
