Back from NY...Economics Teachers Help!

    Hi there!

Having qualified in Ireland in the 90's... taught here for a while ....and having spent the past 8years teaching in New York, I am getting ready to apply for teaching jobs in Economics in this country. I am registered with the Teaching Council and am ready to go.:)

Can any Economics teacher tell me when the Economics syllabus was last changed? And are there any plans to change it soon?

I have checked the Departments website and that of the NCCA but with no luck. There is some mention on the NCCA website of a proposed change in syllabus proposed in 2006....did this actually happen?

I would be grateful for any information here!:)

    Hi Miss Motivation,
Really don't mean to rain on your parade but you sound quite naive on the jobs front. There are thousands of secondary school teachers out of work and things aren't getting any better. Your intention to apply for all economics jobs?! Are you aware that not all schools offer economics as a subject? Those who do, usually only have 1 or 2 teachers of business. Where are these "economics jobs" going to come from?
I'd advise you to take any subbing that you you're offered and make yourself known in local schools. Best of luck ....

    Go raibh maith agat Gaeilgebeo!

I suppose you are right about the market at the moment ..... It's probably the ny positivity rubbing off on me!!:)

I have popped my cv to local schools as you suggested for general subbing but Economics is my buzz subject and was hoping that an economics teacher might be out there to advise on my question....

    Thanks for the insights!

    Hi

You can find the current syllabus for economics at this site.

    http://www.education.ie/home/home.jsp?pcategory=17216&ecategory=17233&language=EN

Also you can find past papers and marking schemes at www.examinations.ie

Just out of interest, are you qualified for/do you teach any other subjects?
