After a few unsuccessful attempts at connecting online just now iv discovered this , really annoying as i cant play offline mode either as it wont track my trophy data

    http://www.metro.co.uk/tech/815354-ps3-users-warned-not-to-use-consoles-as-error-crashes-network

"PS3 gamers across the world have woken up to find their consoles unable to connect online.

In some cases, users have even experienced problems playing offline, as well as finding that Trophy data and saved information had been corrupted by the error.

The 'Error 8001050f' message is thought to be related to the a calendar reset on February 28, when the original PS3 systems were reset to January 1, 2000

Sony have recognised the problem via their Twitter page, posting the following advice for users:

"We're aware that many of you are having problems connecting to PSN, and yes, we're looking into it. Stay tuned for updates."

Users with the newer PS3 Slim models are unaffected, but it has been advised that users with older PS3 models should not use their console until further notice."

PS3 users hit by bug which wipes trophies and PSN data

    Mar 1 2010

ELECTRONICS giant Sony has been forced to apologise after a major fault affected thousands of Playstation 3 owners today.

Gamers around the world reported problems with the Playstation Network online service on their PS3, which has left them unable to play games and in some cases deleted or damaged achievements and trophies saved on the machines.

It is thought the problem may be down to a problem with the internal clock or calendar in the machines, as it has manifested itself with the change of the month.

The fault, which only affects owners of the 'chunky' older PS3 models as opposed to the more recent 'slim' versions. Users report seeing an error message that reads: "8001050F – Hardware failure. Cannot update Firmware or connect to internet".

Afterwards it was found that they are unable to access or play games or content downloaded from the PlayStation Network, and find existing data has been damaged or wiped.

"We have narrowed down the issue and have engineers working to restore service," Sony admitted.

"We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, and genuinely appreciate your patience while we work to resolve this."

The PS3s are fine to use for anything other than PSN and trophy related games. Only the "phat" PS3s are effected. You can still watch movies, web browse, play PS1 and PS2 games just fine. They will work fine again at midnight tonight. Its a Y2K type bug except this is leap year related and the fact its not a leap year and the older PS3s think it is is causing the f up. They have an impossible date of 29/02/10 on their BIOS clocks and this date cannot exist so they don't know what to do. Some are reverting back to 31/12/99 and others to 01/01/00. The PSN servers seem to be suffering the same.

    Thank you captain!

So after midnight Sony will no doubt claim a miracle fix to a one off bug eh!

Every thing should work after midnight but they will still have to release a fix so this can't happen again.

I don't really care about the trophies/savegame data...just as long as my online MW2 profile is good.

I wonder if this guy is just spoofing or what

Grrrrr.... After buying heavy rain yesterday and spending an hour getting patchs, updates, resolving a dns error and installing the game I cant even play it!!!!

This does not bode well for the future use of my playstation.
