Yeah Vodafone have been selling it through some third party for a while now alright. I'd like to see the iPhone-specific tarriffs and so on.

No sign of the email. I assumed that it was going to be sent today, but it looks like they are going to keep us hanging on for a while yet...

Officially available in the Vodafone stores from March 18th. Taking orders now. I ordered mine Saturday. Free on the €65 per month tarriff, no word if its an 18 month contract, but I assume it is

Just been on to VF customer care. There's still no official launch date, and no news on tarrifs. Apparently if you have registered your interest, you will find out the launch date and tarrif details either by email, text or phoneccall. They also claim that the register your interest page is up and running again but it doesn't appear to be this morning.....

I mentioned to customer care to think hard about what prices and tarrifs VF offer their customers. I get the feeling they will try to avoid offering free phones, even though they originally did with me and many others if I moved up to the €65 per month tarrif. When I mentioned this to them, they claimed this was IOS' price and not theirs - I then said that this is rubbish, as if that was the case IOS would not make any money i.e. free phone, and €65 per month tarrif goes to VF - they could not respond to this argument.

Just off the phone with vodafone again... (must have registered my interest twice) but the deal they offered me was as follows:

special offer- 12 months of double mins and texts:
    300 mins
    300 texts
    free VF to VF
    2gb data bundle
    50 Euro per month
199 for the phone (i neglected to ask if it was the 16gb on, but I'm gonna assume)

Not bad, but the offer expires on friday. they rang me on 01-2920909 and said it was ok to ring back.

poor value plan to be honest. With meteor( on a 12 month contract), for €55 /month you get 500min, 500 txt, 1 gb data. You can then avail of a HTC Hero for €50, sell this for approx €300, and buy an unlocked iphone for about €570. Total cost over the contract including iPhone:€980

Vodafones plan comes to €1099, and that's with a crappy bundle of mins and texts that reduce to 150 min and txts after 12 months..

    Looking dearer than O2

Good to see VF are every bit as thick and money-grabbing as O2 then......Hang on to the trusty 3G and move over to Meteor or Three come May.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,933 ✭✭✭keith_d99

Seems a bit strange that Vodafone's and O2's tarriffs are almost identical???? Or not!

O2 €5 cheaper per month on the lowest tarriff though

I like Three, never a prob with coverage and roamed in the UK (using 3G) for no extra charge. do you have it on good authourity that they'll have the iPhone in may?

I'm still shocked that both 02 and vodafone can not come up with a plan for people who don't use there phone much.

I mean €35 is the cheapest plan, and you can only ring/text other Vodafone numbers. Seriously who would use that.

The only workable plan there is €45 a month which is a hell of lot of money to most people.

On Meteor for €35 you could get 200 mins, 200 texts, and 10GB of data which they let you use how you want. No extra charge for tethering.

Read the post again, I never said anything about 3 getting it in May.

Yep, you're right there, its actually very surprising that with all this time to gear up for launch they couldn't come up with any sort of innovative pricing plans that might actually entice new / loyal customers to take up the offer.

For example, if they were to say that any customers taking up these offers would be offered a discount off a new iPhone (should one be released by Apple in the summer), I think people might be happier.

Yeah whats even more surprising is they actually went to the bother of asking people what the wanted. I mean they got two representatives to sign him here for that very reason.

Yet they seem to have ignored every single suggestion, not only that but they haven't even thought up of anything new from themselves.

Seems like a giant waste of time on there part.

can't believe they have followed 02 and are charging extra for tethering. Both 02 and voda can kiss my ass, there's always option C.

more than likely it involves jail breaking / unlocking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,220 ✭✭✭cojomo2

what I actually meant was buying an unlocked handset(a lot easier to get a hold of now then a few months ago, and cheaper too- in many cases the same price as a pre pay from voda/02). Once you have one of these, hook up with 3 or meteor, so much better value to be had and with just a 30 day contract...

voda or o2 do not deserve the business with the likes on the plans they offer, its about time the masses let them know..

"VODAFONE IN SIMILAR PRICING TO O2 SHOCKER"

Seriously, did people really think of Vodafone as the local greengrocer to O2's Tesco?

Well, tbh I expected that vodafones iPhone plans would be similar enough to 02 but I didn't expect them to charge extra for tethering as 02 have done. This move was/is hugely unpopular as 02 doesn't charge extra to tether with any other phone, just the iPhone which already has inflated price plans as it is.

Very stupid move by Voda, if they had matched 02 price plans but let people use their data allowance to tether at no extra charge and made it clear they weren't going to introduce any sneaky policies ( such as having to sign a new 18 month contract when availing of any "free" extras or changing plan), then I think 02 customers would flood to voda at the first oppettunity. As it stands there is no incentive to move, they are both as bad as each other...

iPhone is available in store from the 15th March. I heard this yesterday from 3 sources, IOS, VF CS and in store.

My iPhone is arriving Thursday. :D

I will slip this in there.

Im paying €129 for mine and going on the €64.99 tarriff. I am getting two months free line rental covering me for the price of the phone.

Im happy with this because I was originally going to pay €64.99 when IOS originally offered the phone for free.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 766 ✭✭✭displaced dub

everyone is getting excited about buying an iphone from VF, personally i think your all mad. At some stage this summer apple will launch a new iphone to replace the 3GS... apparently they are calling it iphone 4 or 4g.

i bought mine over a year ago and i would be lost without it but im waiting for the new one due out soon.

Vodafone have been doing market research on the iPhone now for over a year , everything from " mark your interest" and straw polls , they know demand will be huge no matter if they beat O'poo tariffs or not .
Those of us thinking Vodafone getting the iPhone would create competition and price reductions are wrong , seems they are all in bed together :(

It feels like that. Minimum 18 month contract as well. I know it's a high end phone but would have been great if they offered a 12 month, might just have moved from o2.

I have the I Phone with VF since Before Xmas and am happy with it.

Was in the Uk with it and have noticed the the 3g service is better over there. Hope they improve the service here.

My Bills are coming in at around 50 euro a month.

Spoke to VF after reading the linky above.

Website says €60 for the plan I choose yesterday for €64.99.

VF CS say "nobody told us about those price plans"

This is the problem O2 have made such a balls of looking after their customers that Voda don't really have to compete at all to get loads of business. A lot of people are so desperate to move away from O2 that Voda are in for a big surge of customers anyway.

eg O2 only suddenly allowing tethering, just before vodafone launch with it available.

However once it all calms down we'll see what happens. I've not seen any notes on whether vodafone will have visual voicemail from launch? Anyone know?

I'll probably wait for unlock and move away from O2 brining phone with me anyway. Be delighted to get away from them tbh.

yep, they got a lot of people to move to 'better value' plans tying them in to 18 months contracts. They introduced tethering but if you moved you now couldn't use your data to tether without buying an extra bundle!

Dirty tricks is their M.O. A lot of people will move away from them for no other reason than that.

i got the call a few days ago. the offer wasn't much better that these price plans. 50euro a month, 350mins/txt, 2gb, free vf vf..and 200 for the phone..tried to get them down to 129 for the phone (after I tried to get it for free) but the best they would do was give me 80euro credit off the bill over the first 2 months..

Much as I think that both VF and O2 are money grabbing bstrds....could it be that Apple won't let them sell lower than a set price as they get a cut of the tarriff and only the expensive tarriff is making enough for Apple to let them go for free? Just a thought.......might be a crap one!

Nope. Apple were in for a cut of the price plans in the beginning, but that was quickly dropped. Just tight-fisted money grabbing basterds in VF and O2 again....

The vodafone site says "Data costs just 99c per day" for prepay. Is that truly 99c per day, or is it 99c for 50MB and 2c per kb afterwards?

Not much incentive to move to the iPhone on VF is there. Typical Ireland!
