Looking for a small portable laptop

    Hi guys,

I've been looking into netbooks recently and have been waiting a while for the N450 with broadcom HD chip to hit the shops. However, the more I look into it the more I realise what I really need is a fully ledged laptop - but with the battery life of a netbook. Anyone know if such thing exists? I'd need it to be small (11") and long life battery, as its main purpose is for on the go. I'm looking for 10 hours life if possible. I'm not looking for a power house but it must be fairly decent as it's main purpose is as an on the go software development pc. Would also need N wifi.

Anyone any suggestions? I'm not sure about price limit. Maybe approx €1000, obviously the cheaper the better.

    Thanks.

Maybe look at 13" laptop with the ULV processors. Single core SU2700 or dual core SU4100 seem to be . Powercity seem to sell a toshiba and sony with these and quote battery life as 9 or 10 hours

Excellent I wasn't aware of this chip. Seems to be a nice middle ground between laptop and netbook.

Can these chips handle 1080p movies? Ideally the laptop should be able to double up as a portable movie player but most of my movies are backed up in 720p and 1080p.

Anyone have the Dell Inspiron 11z?

I have one of these which is of similar,

I find it fairly decent, the battery lasts for about 6 hours with the screen dimmed etc. (i think it was rated to 9 hours) and it can run Autocad (2d only, major slow down if you try anything in 3d) which makes it powerful enough IMO.

It can even run GTA3 which i am delighted with!

its played any videos i have fine, but i don't know what resolution they were.

I would say 720p is grand though.

    Check out http://www.elara.ie/products/detailsfull.asp?productcode=ECE1811079

Has SU4100 CPU which I find pretty ok for SW Dev (Java, PHP, Android and the odd bit of C#).
Also has G45 chipset with GMA 4500MHD which does do 1080p quite nicely when you hook it up to a TV with the HDMI - very little CPU usage as the grfx does all the work.

Battery life is 8hrs+ (depending on usage) and is extremely portable.

    was discussed a bit here

This could be a winner :) Falls short on a couple of things but I don't think I'm going to find the perfect solution. Would prefer a matt screen and bluetooth (I use bluetooth keyboard and mouse at home). If I can add a bluetooth card to this I'd be happy.

matte screens are getting harder and harder to find :(
I like the screen, but like you would prefer something I could look at without having to ignore reflections....
But for the most part since it's small, it's not so bad.

    As for BT.
I got one of these http://www.elara.ie/products/detailsfull.asp?productcode=MMEB101033
Fantastic piece of kit. Forget it's there now :)
